Vibration in steering wheel above 40mph
Few nights ago I hit a pot hole of some sort, now whenever I’m on the gas above 40mph the car starts to shake/vibrate, and I feel it in the steering wheel. The thing throwing me off is that the vibration/shaking will go away even at 60 mph if I completely let off the gas and let it cruise. And then with the slightest touch of gas, it begins shaking again. What would be your guys’ first thoughts?

If it feels like rumble strips it's the transmission shudder. Do the trans fluid flush ASAP

Didn't the 2019 SS have the A10 (10L80) already? That transmission isn't supposed to shudder.

Yeah, I would get the wheels checked as a starting point. Something may be bent or out of balance.

Don't you think the fact that it only starts doing it with the slightest bit of gas above 40mph would point to something else? I figured if it was the wheel\tire itself it would just be constant

That usually is indicative of the Transmission shudder. And 2019's were listed as having it, but granted that was supposed to be exclusive to the A8 and not the A10. Was there a different A10 trans for 2020+? or was it the 10L80? The trans shudder is known to happen between 30-80mph, and at the usual same places, for me it was 50mph, and 70mph on my 2016. As soon as I applied more than a light accelerator pedal, the vibration would stop. To my knowledge and I could be wrong, if it was a wheel imbalance, or tire imbalance you would feel it while braking as well, not just accelerating. And if it was an alignment issue you would notice the car pulling to one side over the other when you take your hand off the wheel (excluding road crowns / Tire pressure issues) The only other thing I can think of that may be causing that is a warped rotor but again that's usually felt while braking, not sure if it can be felt while acclerating.

I'd be starting by investigating the wheels, regardless of what people think about adding throttle or not. You hit a pothole and it started right after that. Any mechanic worth his salt would begin with the wheels/tires, and work his way to the suspension.

I agree in checking tire/wheel first. And inspection may not show damage. You could have knocked off a wheel weight and only a spin balance will show that problem. |

As I mentioned before, if it was a wheel imbalance or tire imbalance you would feel that while braking, and not just while accelerating. It would also look like an alignment issue as the car will pull to one side or the other. And you would feel that pull in the steering wheel as well.

as someone mentioned earlier, the feeling is almost identical to driving over rumble strips. its a very strong vibration\shake. could it be a control arm causing this? or would the fact that there needs to be a bit of throttle to activate it rule this out?
