You've heard that the #GM #Corvette Assembly Plant will be shut down for 13 weeks (end of July through October, 2017). It was just announced that public tours will NOT be available for 18 months.

I just read that too...I was going to post it here. Very interesting in my opinion! Enjoyed reading it.

The idea of GM replacing their Gen V small blocks with a compact design DOHC engine seems like a very real possibility, and we've already seen evidence (the document with the engine code leak) that this will happen. It really does make good sense. The only downside I see now possibly with the DOHC engine is the possible loss of low end torque compared to the Gen V. But maybe if they can bump the displacement of their DOHC to 5.3, or 5.7, or even 6+...that will solve that issue.

A performance DOHC 5.7 should be easy for 500-ish HP right? I can see this going into the Vette, and of course trickle down to the next gen Camaro.

If GM can do a DOHC engine like this, then I see Ford maybe following suite at some point? The 5.0 in the Mustang gets dinged for its big size, weight, and lack of low end punch. Sounds like the GM version could have none of these issues.

I still think the possibility of an N/A "ZR1" Corvette utilizing a hi-po version of this engine with 650HP (again...no FI!) sounds insane to me. Not sure I'm on board with that idea yet. But heck...who knows.

I think the only "proof" of a DOHC small block is that VIN card. It's just like how all the journalists were absolutely sure the C7 would come with the 5.5 liter small block.
