Looks like the welder was out of shielding gas or some other issue that contaminated the weld, it was the welds that caused the issue obviously...

I'd go into the dealer and speak with the service manager face to face. They need to order you a new exhaust and install it ASAP.

I have doubts they are going to replace the entire exhaust, they seem to have been trying to blow me off concerning this issue.
Wondering if there would be any benefit of just getting after-market midpipes to replace that section. I have an auto with NPP, so I don't want to change too much and deal with AFM issues and CELs |

Your car has a warranty, I'd be insisting they fix it.

But yeah, the whole reason I haven't just taken it somewhere else to get this fixed is because of the fact that I got a new car with a warranty so I wouldn't have to do that type of thing. |

Probably 409 stainless, which is fairly standard on today’s automotive exhaust. This is a VERY odd failure, being both pipes.

What I could see as going on here is that there might be something wrong with the welds? Maybe there is some kind of contamination problem (wrong spool of wire used, problem with the shielding gas during the weld) that would allow corrosion to begin, then over a little time cause the welded metal to corrode?

I know when I've welded exhaust stuff, you can 100% get a failure like this with the wrong fill wire and/or excessively large heat-affected zone. |

Did it solved the problem permanently or did it happen again? Just curious on how long will this last. |

Gen 6 Exhaust
I had the same thing happen to me. I have a 2016 2SS convertible. Driving about 65MPH all of a sudden it sounded like something hit the underside of the car. Car ran fine, got home lifted it and found 2 hole blew out. Nobody could tell me what caused it and just had a local muffler shop weld in new pieces

What's your experience, how long did the welding last? Cheers |

Former Ann Arborite here. I'm still up in MI frequently. Have always had good luck at Greg Bell Chevrolet in Adrian MI. 30 mins south of AA. Suburban is great for parts but not my go to repair folks. |

That is some kind of metal fatigue. Looks to me like the heat from when the pipe brace was welded changed the properties of the pipe metal. Add in repeated heat cycles and eventually the metal cracked and failed.

Go to a good exhaust shop, have those cut out and weld in new pieces.
