So lets see if we can go 9s on a 20" drag radial. What? Another fib?

So, Josh was always right about me, I never tell the truth in the beginning about my next build. Ok so lets just get it to go mid 11s and we almost did with 11.64. Then I get a blower and toohighpsi Port Injection and lets just try and go 10.60s and we go 10.34 and I'm happy with that, Right? Nope, so lets try and go in the 9s on stock front tires, 305 35 20 555r2s on stock wheels on the rear on the stock fuel system except the JMS booster. That is what we'll find out Oct 15, outlook on the weather looks to be about 68 degrees and I'm thinking DA will be 0 to 500 which are ideal conditions for a good opportunity to do that. Can the tires handle it, not sure. Can the axles and driveshaft handle, that's also an unknown. If I get close on 20s but not there yet, I'll buy a Hoosier Slick drag pack before the last race of the year and save the 100 lbs and I'm sure we can do it with that. I know I'm going to hear it from Josh and probably King about my problems with never being fast enough. I admit it and my wife knows it also, I have some issues to deal with at 70.7 years old. Never say never.

Its all good. If you are having fun and not causing problems for anyone else... why not!

You are walking in knowing stuff might break, so its a great stress test too. Im curious what the first broken link will be. The pistons? The driveshaft?

Looking forward to seeing you push the limits!

You’re not far off. The good air and a good launch and it should be close. The good thing the 20’s have going for them is the tire height is pretty respectable at 28” +- I say you get it if the track prep/conditions are respectable that day. Good luck

On a little over 10 psi of boost I'm not worried about the motor. I put 180 passes on the original Lt1 in my 16 SS on a lot more boost then that. We've learned a lot since then. My IAT's are much lower for this motor, less boost and timing then the old motor also. I was running 26 degrees of timing and 16 psi of boost when I broke it at Gateway in 2018. Bout crashed it but stayed off the wall when it broke just before the trap when it pushed the rear seal out and got oil on the rear tires. Engine diaper kept me from crashing the car in the traps at about 140 mph on a 10.03 pass. Glad I grew up in Missouri and learned how to drive on snow and ice cause that's what it was like. Earlier the car had went 10.00@139, I smelled a little oil but figured I make one more pass. Well I should have loaded it on the trailer after that, nope old dumbass decided one more pass would be ok. Wrong

Hey no worries my friend. Just a little friendly ball busting!

I started having trouble hooking with the 20” drag radials in the 10.3-10.5 range. I didn’t think to try launching in 2nd gear back then, but I probably could have cracked into the 9’s back then on 20’s if I had. Not sure if your current TCM tune will allow you to try a 2nd gear launch?

I know, this threads for your ego to say you told me so.
I can't second gear launch with this trans being stock and locked. Mike worked on figuring out the timing to get the car past 60 ft without blowing the tires off like I did at the fest after the first pass. We can adjust from there. I can always leave the traction control on and see if it will launch that way. Mike swears I had it on with the first pass at the LS Fest, I did my burnout in touring with it off, then switched to sport but didn't click to turn it off in that mode. Just not sure but it pulled like 9 degrees of timing on the launch from 18 degrees to 9 degrees. So we have the launch at 9 degrees and see if these R2s can hold it.

Lots of 9s (and maybe 8s) have been run on 19" drag radials (Nitto, Toyo, and others) on ZL1 and 1LE so I don't see a reason you can't do it.

Well if anyone can figure it out it’s Mike! Guy is so smart.

Good luck my friend! You’re so close, it’s definitely looking good.

I know others have run in the 9s on 20" drag radial but have they run in the 9s with stock Lt1 fuel system. I know I have an aid in the Jms booster but still have the Lt1 HPFP, stock injectors and stock in tank pump. I had a lot of fuel mods on my 16 to run 10.00@139 so maybe we can do it on stock stuff and heavier then stock.

BTW, are you doing your racing at the St. Louis track. If I can time the weather right this fall and get low DAs (the track elevation is 500 ft. as I recall) , I would haul my car down there for some testing.

Yes I am, the 15th, 22nd and 29th are the last 3 races. Possibly into early November but the depends on weather here in Missouri. Wwtraceway or Gateway is my home track and its 155 miles away from me. Its actually in Madison Ill just across the river from St Louis arch. Where are you at?

Here is the schedule
I'll be running the Pro/Sportsman combo 1/8 mile and the VP Heads Up 1/4 in probably Class A which is the quick 8, maybe Class B depending on the number of cars there. Its usually a pretty big field in the street classes.

This is the exciting part where all the work pays off
It's much more dialed in now with 10x better conditions.
Running 9's on port injection and a set of R2's on the back will be super impressive.

12 more days
