New to the car scene, jacked my Camaro at the wrong area...

So I got my first free oil change at the dealership, then decided I would change my own oil from now on.

Today was the day I finally did it, and completed it successfully with no issues.

Problem is that the lift points on the Camaro are horrific, and I accidentally jacked the car up at the wrong location because I didn't double-check.

Should I be worried at all about any structural damage from this decent-sized dent, or is it just a cosmetic thing and will just look ugly because of the dent?

I stole the picture below from someone else on the forum where the dealer apparently lifted from this point like I did, but I have larger dents in the circled area. I don't have my car with me right now, so I can't take a picture to show the extent, but it seems a little bad.

Not structural, you are OK. I did the same thing myself, and I also should have known better. It sucks, but it is not a big deal.
Now go get yourself some lift pads that attach to the pinch welds so you won't have any more issues. Live and learn.

I got 2 sets of these so that I can use the bonus lift point that lifts both wheels on a side off the ground at one.

The ZL1 addons units are also an excellent choice.

If you are going to dent your new car, that is the best place to do it.

Well without an actual picture of your car, no one will likely be able to give you any feedback that would have any meaningful value...

Yup - that area will dent!

Jack pad for floor jack and note lift point in yellow boxes.

Give us a pic of your car so we can tell, a dent there could easily be only esthetic.

AFAIK that location is designed to support the empty unibody while the car is transported on the assembly line, see below. It isn't sufficiently strong to hold the assembled car with the engine and interior already in it, that's why it dented when you jacked it from there. Kinda sucks, because it looks very much like a jack point on other cars, so this is an easy mistake to make if one doesn't do the research.

I'll post an additional picture tomorrow. I was just hoping for some insight until I can get a better picture so I can go to sleep tonight and not worry (somewhat).

My dealership I bought mine from lifted mine in the same place! I seen it when I installed the lift pads. That’s probably where %90 of the dealerships lift them! Lol they don’t know or don’t care.
