Good to know, I have no idea what the quality of mine was but it wasn't cheap and they came recommended...

Not to be a jerk but There’s posts back in 2016 stressing to move that harness
Yes indeed, my mechanics said this was the problem for me, they said the wiring harness had been ripped off and was dangling much closer to the headers than normally would be the case

I'd really like to know who accidentally ripped the wiring harness off... I've narrowed it down to two mechanic shops, but they hadn't touched the car in over a year and it only really started showing up when I started tracking the car hard this summer and the horn started honking at my when I took corners

Wow man, my heart goes out to you. That is not an expense that any of us would be ok with.

Yeah that’s pretty brutal. Sorry @GMG.

I'm so sorry to hear this, that's on the level of blowing a drivetrain up. It's always risky to modify a car, and it's really hard to find a shop and/or a tech you can trust to really care about your car as much as you would yourself. IMO, as someone who has owned a shop, this is pure negligence on the part of the tech who installed your headers.

Thanks guys, but as I’m sure we all know, if money can fix a problem; It’s not a big deal, it’s just a first world problem, thankfully

This sucks big time, I'm very sorry to hear it, too. Hope your interior was put together again at least as well as in the factory.

Agreed. I don't care what kind of coating is on the headers you don't want anything touching them. Even the 2500 degree coating will get hot after a road course session.

Chassis wiring harness. It’s probably the biggest reason they totaled the fire damaged salvage Camaro SS I bought. No way was I going to replace that harness. Unlike your situation I had nothing but a bundle of burned wires, some the same color and gauge that had to be traced and sorted out. It was a test where anything less than 100% was unacceptable. I staggered my splices and used solder and heat shrink tubing, will probably outlast the car and can’t even tell with the factory wrap.

I used a ZL1 harness and changed a few pins. The harness for my car was not available from GM.

I can’t imagine that a heat burn from header contact would damage the harness inside of the firewall.

I also changed the engine wiring harness (pictured) it was a pain but could be done without disassembling the entire car.

Man, that looks like it was quite a job. I bet that took some time.

OMG!! Can we get a “go fund me” account set up for GunMetalGrey!?! I’d throw in some to help with this very unfortunate situation. Sorry brother. A $12K pill is hard to swallow. Dang it!!

I bought it cheap, rolled it into my shop on 11/15/21 and drove it out 60 days later 1/15/22. Over 5,000 miles since and no issues. On the other hand, I was emboldened to buy a ZLE that had what looked like minor collision damage back in July and with the unseen unibody damage it’s still in the body shop 4 months later and will take probably 2 more months when I get it back. Not to mention it wasn’t a financial success. No more salvage vehicles for me.
