Designing a new SS badge to replace front bowtie
I haven't found a replacement SS badge that I like for the bowtie location. I don't want the classic "bubble" logo because it doesn't seem to fit the SS model. And I don't think the angle works there either given the angled faces.
So I modeled one to be 3D printed and am looking for some feedback before I start printing it. I'll have to add a rear plate to match the factory bowtie front that uses the same fastener locations, but I need to remove the factory badge first. For now, I am focusing on the style. The size of this is 60mm by 170mm. I think the face will be a color (for me, silver to match the rally stripes) and the rear (flats) would be black. Modeled in Fusion360. Location and size of edge fillets is 5mm or 3mm, intentionally. Face fillet is 2mm, looks ok without the face fillet also.

I like it, great design. The angle in the middle is a bit too much, but that's easy to adjust, however, I think the original design is slanted to the right while yours is completely straight, is that deliberate?

Printing a prototype for general sizing and fitment, we'll see what it looks like.

And, yes, I removed the slant to the right because I don't like it for the bowtie replacement.

This is how I measured the front of the bowtie. It's 22mm deep which sets up the angle.

Angle was a bit steep, but I just heated the badge up to match the angle. No biggie since this is a prototype. I quickly taped it up, it's crooked but i'm trying to get a sense of scale.
I'm still unsure of how it will end up looking so i'll paint the whole thing black then paint just the front gray and see what I think. If I remove the backing and just have the "S" then the factory mounting points do not line up, no biggie since I could just redesign the mount anyway. We'll see what I think when I make one without the backing and at the proper angle.

Are you sure about the size? The bowtie had a lot of empty space around it, this SS badge looks cartoonishly large to me at this location, in all honesty. I'd personally go for a 40-50% size reduction.

Yeah. WAY too big. And it should have the OEM SS slant too. Just my 2 cents.

The slant will not be added in. The slant makes it weird with the angle, because each "S" need to be on either side of the seam. I have an idea, tho, that i'll draft up for review by the group. Thanks for the feedback!

You tried, good for you for thinking outside the box. But being 100% honest, scrap it. Doesn’t look even close to as good as the factory SS. Looks out of place & don’t think it will fit at any size.
If you want something different just have the original painted. The size and shape is already good. I had mine painted satin steel like my car. They paint both for a set but I went without the SS badge on the front. Looks awesome without a badge at all. |

Version 2 is smaller and includes a first pass of a mounting base.
Much smaller than V.1 Next question for the group is how much to inset a different color? 1mm (left) or 2mm (right)?

that size looks about right. that print preview seems to have you wasting a lot on supports. flip the model and print face down? of course that pic wouldn't make sense to anyone but you
I will say it's not to my taste but I very much appreciate you sharing this. I was considering attempting to do this but I'm not any good with actual 3d modeling. I can only hack things together with tinkercad. I ended up removing the bowtie and leaving the original SS badge in place. |
