Washing microfiber towels
Wondering what others use. I've been throwing a tide pod in with mine but that may be causing the smearing ive been fighting lately. Thanks

I use Adam's Towel & Pad Revitalizer
https://adamspolishes.com/products/a...ad-revitalizer If not using a detergent specifically formulated to clean Microfiber Towels use a liquid detergent free from dyes and perfumes with the machine set to warm water, and no fabric softener. The pods can leave residue from the pod itself if not completely dissolved during the wash cycle. Powders may not completely dissolve, leaving gritty detergent residue remaining within the towel. When drying use medium heat and no fabric softener sheets.

Do not use regular soap. Use free/clear. I've been using Purex for a few years and it works great, and it's inexpensive.
Don't mix microfiber with cotton towels, you will have lint all over your microfibers. You don't need a microfiber specific soap. It doesn't clean any better. I've tried many of them. Waste of money. Don't mix towels used for removing wax/sealant with drying/waterless/rinseless towels. Soak them overnight in a 5 gallon bucket with a few ounces of APC (All Purpose Cleaner), then wash as normal. The APC will break down the wax/sealant without harming your microfiber towels. Every few washes, add an ounce of distilled white vinegar to the rinse cycle, this will keep them soft. I usually do two rinse cycles when adding it, putting it in on the first one. Don't use the dryer at all, let them air dry. You will get the best longevity out of them this way. I have towels that are 5 years old, that are as good as new since I stopped using the dryer. Heat is the biggest enemy of microfiber.

I soak mine in a 5 gallon bucket of luke warm water with dawn dish liquid. It loosens all dirt and wax from them. I let them soak 24 hrs. I use the washer, but set the cycle on [Delicate] or sanitary and 1 extra rinse. Then let them dry naturally on a folding rack.

IF and when some of mine will get real dirty. I wash them and then use them to clean my inside rims and the tips of my exhaust pipes. There good to keep around for wipeing up spilled oil. Then just throw them out.

Thanks for the replies, I'll pick up some free and clear soap. I knew not to use softeners but the dyes and fragrance make sense too.

As with everyone else, I use Tide Free and Clear and a little vinegar (I do the same with my regular towels)
I do use the dryer, on low, no fabric softener and remove promptly

One other thing I don't use microfiber towels that are stitched with thread all around there edges. The ones I use don't have any stitching around the edges at all.

Laundry detergent, whether a specific microfiber cleaner, or for clothes is alkaline, vinegar is acidic. Don't mix the two, add the vinegar to the fabric softener dispenser to be introduced during the rinse cycle.
Also, note, using Adam's Towel and Pad Revitalizer has allowed me to wash all my towels together, at the same time. The detergent is specifically formulated to clean automotive detailing chemicals from microfiber. The only ones I won't wash along with the others are one used with water activated sealants, those I wash separately, by hand.

Another good idea is to get containers to store your towels in while not in use.
This will keep them free of any dust or contaminates. They hold a good amount of towels. These are Sterilite containers, 64 quarts. This container has 11 Crazy Piles, 4 Yellow Fellows, 2 Dry Me Crazy standard size, 2 Cloud Busters, 1 Dry Me Crazy XL (huge towel), 2 Incredimitts, 1 Incredipad, 1 Crazy Pile Deluxe, and 1 Wave Rider full size. I could easily fit more in.
