Having traction control off have any effect on tire life?

I feel driving feeling much smoother with TC off or it's just in my head but does it have any sort of effect on making the tire life last longer?

If you drive the same with traction control off as you do on then it doesn't make any difference.

If you’re not squealing them you’re not burning them, so your tires will last the same either way. The only time you get excessive tire wear is when you hear ‘em squeal or smell ‘em burnin. Otherwise it doesn’t matter if you have TC engaged or not.

All TC does is make it harder to burn ‘em. But not by much.

TC cuts power so you stop spinning so I'd imagine that alone would be saving you tire life whenever you see it pop on.

Controlling your foot will make the life of your tires last longer. Even with TC on it will still --while not nearly as bad-- spin quite a bit if you hammer the gas from a stop. And of course the compound of the tire will also have an effect on it's life.

Yes, I would think it would shorten tire life

Lol! I guess that’s one way to do it.

I have to do my WOT pulls in manual in 3rd gear from 3000 rpm to avoid excessive spin/wear

you need more power, esp if it's an auto car...on all seasons...on narrow wheels...eh that's probably enough.

to the op: i doubt it. i did all kinds of shenanigans on the original set of sc3s. burnouts, frequent, excessive tire spin, etc. they still lasted 19k miles and werent totally bald when i swapped them out. one track session with little-no tire spin is far more detrimental to tire life.

If you're actually feeling some "un-smoothness" in the power delivery when TC is left on, that you don't when you turn it off, TC is probably helping to extend tire life. Most TC systems either cut engine power slightly, apply a rear brake, or possibly both. It's possible that a driver sensitive to such things might feel this happening.
