Help with SoCal zl1 build..

Since I’m not getting much help in the California thread. Hey everyone, just like the title says! I have a mainly stock 2020 zl1 that I’d like to start modifying but with all of this smog issues i don’t know where to start. What modifications do you suggest starting out with while staying smog compliant. I mostly use my car on the weekend at willow springs or some straight line stuff as well. Thanks for any help!

You have a big TB, exhaust and no RF intake? You should get an RF.

Where are you located? I'm in Sherman Oaks and if you need a great shop in LA I can highly recommend JMP Autowerkz in Canoga Park for track prep and other mod installs. They don't tune ZL1s though, it more of a BMW shop.

Excelsior is a good Chevy tuner shop in Escondido, but that's far and I dont know of any closer to LA. Fortunately I dont plan to tune my ZLE.

I’m unfamiliar with RF, do you mean RotoFab? If so those aren’t carb legal, but they are easy to swap out when smogging so I’d be willing to have one if it won’t affect my tune when i get the car smogged when i put the stock one back on. Thoughts?

The CAIs are a 10 minute swap back to stock for smog. I have a Cold Air Inductions CAI. Mine is stock except for the CAI, Ported Throttle Body and Axle Back exhaust. No tune, no CEL. If you go for a Roto Fab Big Gulp a tune is required, then going back to stock might be a bit more problematic.

Might want to define how "smog" compliant you want to be.

You throttle body & TC are already non-compliant.

CAI will be as well unless it has a CARB number.

All can be switched out for Testing.

Heck even Headers and more can be switched out before Testing.

The decision is are you willing to risk getting pulled over and asked to pop you hood, for citation and report to a "smog referee".

a throttle body nor a TC will throw a code when being smogged and plugged into the OBDII reader

Once the 2650 Maggie is approved for CARB, any idea how much horsepower that will help with with a tune?
