Yep no longer approved for Dexos2 and officially suggested as no longer suitable, as its chemical recipe has changed (per earlier thread).

Yes.
Valvoline MST 5w40 Dexos 2 has been discontinued.

If you look you might find AdvanceAuto store brand Carquest oil that is rebottled Valvoline 5w40 Dexos 2.
That might be all gone now too.

It's not the Valvoline MST SynPower Advanced blah blah per the owners manual, I'm not using it anymore. You done screwed yourself Valvoline! They have the same junk at Wal-Mart now. Mobil1 ESP 0w-40W here I come

I thought that thread concluded with, same exact oil but no longer paying GM for the Dexos certification?

The only Dexos 2 5w-40 I can find online are Motul and Amalie. Between those, not knowing Amalie, I think I'll pick Motul.


I live in a warm climate. Any reason to opt for 0w40 Mobil 1 over the 5w40 options?

The Mobil 1 is a factory fill now, so there is that to consider. 0W will give you better starts in warmer climate, but we are splitting hairs.
Personally, i will be switching to Mobil 1. Cheers!
