Its a good idea to do so....some residual motor oil might be still in the engine so you are not completely dry after a change, but filling the filter up at least halfway will reduce the amount of time it takes for the fresh oil to get pumped through and your oil pressure will rise to the normal level quicker as well.

But. I’ll probably take the car to a dealership for an oil change. I’ll ask them if they can prime the filter

You can ask, they probably won't. It's not going to hurt anything. For you to ask, and if they don't prime the filter.

So I came across this today when I went to go purchase my oil from Amsoil. I’ve always purchased a wix filter from them, which was a 57060. GM has put out a service bulletin stating what some other members in this thread already know, that the required bypass setting for the LT1 is 22psi. I don’t think Wix’s new filter is available yet, but there is some more information about this on the corvette forums.

Wix WL10290 is available at my local Professional auto parts store. You might try NAPA auto parts which sell house brand filers made by Wix

I do not think he is saying that the wix filter is impossible to find but rather that it does not meet the requirements as specified by GM. 12psi vs 22psi bypass setting

Oh nice. I might have to try my local NAPA and see if they carry this new filter in the Gold series.

And yes, this WL10290 filter does have the correct, 22psi, bypass setting

Ah ok good to know. I thought the new part number was just NAPA’s own number for the same 57060 filter.
