Guys - need a little info/help/advise please!
So, just picked up my car and one of the comments I got was from my sister that read "Do they undercoat it? We can chat...maybe get creocoat for the undercarriage."
Over the past year of being on the forum here I don't remember anything about a tendency toward corrosion/rust re our undercarriage. Is this something I should worry about? Plenty of people DD their Camaros (including me). Is this "creocoat" something that I should actually consider? I would love some facts/talking points/advice from actual experience so that I can speak intelligently on this subject when we have our "chat", lol. Thank so much!!

I'm from Ontario and I've got mine factory ordered as we speak I plan on driving it here year round. salt is an issue so is that Brine that they spray on the roads these days I would have your vehicle undercoated with a good product like Rust Check or Krown. Use one of those if you're Canadian I would probably use krown first. If you're American fluid films an excellent product

The factory uses carefully galvanized steel and then the paint is now a powder coat that's baked on. On top of that, GM's hydrodynamics engineers spent a really long time managing water through the car for proper drainage.
If you put on an aftermarket spray coating, you're risking modifying the hydrodynamics and trapping water, which will promote rust instead of mitigate it. GM will also not honor the 6 year/100k mile rust warranty if you put on an aftermarket coating. Something to think about.

Also FYI, CreoCoat is a sealant for wood: https://www.rustoleum.com/product-ca...life-creocoat/

Let's just put it this way.. Would chevy design a car that's low to the ground and have it be easily corroded? Probably not...

Good point! although... there have been a few things about the car's design that have left some people scratching their heads, so I tend to not assume anything, lol

Ok,
I'm in the rust belt in Northern Ohio, and I'm on my third Camaro. The first two were daily driven. A lot. Rain-sleet-snow, u name it. Most of the undercarriage did ok going into the second year of ownership, but some of the chassis components were rusting pretty good. Rear end suspension arms, nuts and bolts, and other underpinnings didn't like the salt and showed it. The rest of the car showed new, but underneath was starting to show some age. My latest one doesn't see rain. So naturally, its like new in and out. I am hoping to keep it that way as long as I can. Hope this helps you out. |

there is zero protection on the undercarriage for surface rust. Your car will surface rust away. Chevy says its ok as it is just surface rust.
