Weird surging at cruise

Hey All.

So this is for a v6 2018 with auto tranny.
About a week ago I noticed a slight surge if I am cruising on the freeway, it will do it on level ground at around 70 mph, but at lower speeds if cruising up a slight incline. Have verified its in full 6 cylinder mode when this happens and not v4.
As it surges I can feel the change like a pulsing, but its very slight. A passenger would not pick up on it. I have a vid link showing the tach as I cruise.

Issue happens in most gears, I can have it in manual mode for example. Also seen when using cruise control. Any ideas? Its out of warranty so its up to me. Its all stock. I have a basic scanner if there is a parameter I should view real time that could help diagnose. No CELs tho.

Might be the torque converter surge. Do a search to find the threads. There is a service bulletin on this.

That was one of the first things I looked up, but maybe I got the wrong results, people describe a more violent feel with their issues. This is more like hummmmMMMmmmmMMMmmmmMMM

I will search some more just to check, thanks for the suggestion

Does it do it a lot more in 7th and 8th gear?

As far as I can tell it does it about the same. I can even make it happen in a lower gear if like 6th and just feather the throttle up a slight incline.

If it was an older car I would suspect fuel delivery or a vac leak. I suppose it could be a vac leak but a late model DI motor should still be fine with fuel. At least going by my limited knowledge of direct injection.

Well I can tell you that my tach used to bounce like that (mostly in 7th and 8th gear but a little in the lower gears as well) and it was directly related to the infamous shudder that these cars can have. When they replaced the torque converter along with the latest fluid and flush procedure it went away

Did you feel anything along with the rpm bounce?

Ok I'll keep that in mind as I continue trying to diagnose it. Thanks.

Mine was not violent at all. For several hundred miles, I thought it was just a vibration from the road surface. With a service bulletin, it doesn't matter if you're out of warranty. They will fix it.

So is it a case of go to the dealer and they will determine if it’s a TSB and fix it?
I’m in a totally foreign environment when it comes to anyone repairing something for me. I generally am the one who repairs everything for myself and others.

Well went to the dealership today. Good news is even tho I bought it used I am still in the power train warranty. Its runs out at 60k and I am at 53k.
It will go in for a diagnostic in March. The guy tried to tell me even if its the fluid change TSB I'm past being due for a fluid change so I would have to pay anyway.
When I got home and looked it seems I'm only behind if you are going by the severe use schedule, is this a tactic they use to get $$? Can they just decide to force me onto that schedule? All it does is cruise up and down the freeway.

Also thoughts on buying extended warranties? Any particular company?
