Track Prep for Zl1 1LE
Hi Guys,
I'm sure this has been beaten to death but perhaps this can be a sticky for future reference. I'm heading to Thunderhill this weekend and have track time on various vehicles but will be a first in the Camaro. Car prep: Three oil changes (factory oil) plus 2 x Dexos 40WT Track alignment (stock settings on ride height etc) Diff Flush Brack Fluid change (recommendations) Need to read the manual on pulling the hood / brakes? Anything else I'm missing? Thanks, Nate |

It seems you're asking for brake fluid recommendations. If you want to do it right the first time, Castrol SRF

Hey bud, I'm local and have quite a few days in my 1LE this year. Get in touch on PM if you have any other questions.
First things first, drive and HAVE FUN! Don't worry so much about the car, this thing will handle anything you can throw at it. With that said, what run group are you in? - This car (in the eyes of GM) needs a 15w50 for the track, I would definitely use this oil if you want peace of mind to maintain warranty in the unlikely event something does happen. - Alignment is key, I've seen a ton of Camaro's that come from the factory with the specs all out of whack. If you are using stock 3R tires and driving to and from the track, be prepared for the fronts to only last a couple of hundred miles regardless of alignment specs. - Castrol SRF is what I use, if you are a relatively new driver I bet you'd be fine with the stock fluid. - Pull the hood vent to help with cooling, nothing to change on the brakes with this car. ALso, keep an eye on temps. It's going to be stupid hot up there. I don't go to Thunderhill during the summer.

The three oil changes is because the car is almost at 1500 miles. I'm going in this Thursday so I can switch to the 15w50.
Does anyone run the 15w50 year round? I wont put many street miles on it. I'm running C group, I doubt I'll push the brakes hard but with the temps at T-Hill but I want to be prepared. I'm running the stock 3R tires. I've got a set of BC forged and slicks inbound but not looking to use them on the first outing. I pulled the water deflector today and the small strips (not sure what you call them on the edges of the splitter). |

I use 15w50 all the time, but I trailer to and from the track and don't street the car that often. Just let it warm up a bit longer and you'll be good to go. I could be wrong, but I believe you want the small splitter strips on for track.
What BC and tire set up are you going with?

I followed this:
https://www.camaro6.com/forums/showthread.php?p=9899075 The way I read it pull the little strips during track and re-insert when done. BC forged in lightweight trim, bead knurling on wheels, I went with a set of tires from Todd Z at GT Racing tires. |

My apologies, I was thinking of a different part. You are correct, I threw those away upon delivery.
18's or 19's? If you went with a true non-dot slick use some caution if you aren't very experienced with them.

I went 19's standard Zl1 1le fitment.. I did I'm going to definitely take caution on them and come up to speed appropriately.
I've always ran 200TW tires due to class rules (I ran CAM-T) in my Mustang. Are you using track insurance? if so who? |
