Is scraping/grinding from the throttle body normal in winter?
Got my Camaro back from the dealership today and they said the scraping/grinding noise I was hearing when the throttle is opened is normal in the cold weather (of course they did). Has anyone else experienced this? It just started for me a few nights ago and has driven me batshit crazy ever since. It makes my 2020 SS 1LE sound like it’s 30 years old. My buddies ‘17 doesn’t make this noise and he’s got 37k miles in the same climate (Tennessee).

I have 40K miles on mine, and I also live in TN. Haven't heard it at all and it has been rather chilly this year.

I don’t think that’s normal. If it is “grinding” it might be binding. If it is binding the sensor will force the system into limp mode cause it thinks the throttle is stuck. Had this happen on another GM vehicle when it got really cold out and the excessive crankcase pressure forced moisture into the intake tract and partially froze the throttle body. Nothing like limping along the highway at 10mph when it is 25 below zero.
Maybe a good excuse to replace it with a performance TB? 🙂 |

I personally have never heard an explanation like that about a throttle body! Sounds like the TB should be replaced and they don’t want to do it. I hate to say this but let the thing get worse or fail then it will have to be replaced.

This may be a top 5 bs answer from a dealer. If it is actually making noise let alone scraping it should be replaced......But I doubt it’s what’s making noise. Very easy to confirm though.

It’s definitely not normal, and did this car do this inside the service garage? I am sure it’s at least 60 inside, and it’s probably not actually that cold outside in TN as it is.

Good point... I did show them the sound in the garage where it was at least 60. Complete BS from the dealer as usual. Coming from a BMW M235i (and a Toyota Tacoma before that), gotta say the Chevy ownership experience so far has been garbage

Check out the link, I used this because I knew it was there and have the Soler TB on my car. You will see it’s four meshed points and nothing to grind or scrap. Not sure how you got to that conclusion, I would try another dealer at the very least |

you mean if you push the gas pedal when the engine is off? then yes you will hear it but if you can hear it over a running engine then they flat out lied to you.
