34 hard miles! Do I walk away?
First I love the new ZL1. I have been trying to get one since September. However GM has made the buying experience anything but good.
1) Hard to find an allocation or even dealerships knowledgeable about the car. 2) Can't buy from my friend's local dealership. 3) Find one and finally can put a hard order in early December only to see people who ordered after me get build weeks before me. What happened to first come, first serve? 4) Then my ship week goes away for a few weeks and I get bounced back to 3000. Finally, I think my luck is changing and I find my exact build in a dealership outside of Pittsburgh sitting on the lot. I commit to buying the car. Get mileage for insurance. HMMMM 34 miles. Then today I see this video of my car and how it got the 34 miles. Multiple readline shifts with hardly any miles on it. Do I pick up the car Tuesday as planned? If at mile 35, I have an engine or transmission issue and diagnostics show repeated redline shifts ignoring required breakin procedures, do I get hassles with warranty? Do I walk away?

If you've waited this long you can wait a little longer until your mind is at ease with what you buy.

I think you sort of answered you own questions to be honest. If there is a video of someone redlining "your" new car....then yea, you probably should walk away. As for the rest of it...have you been reading up on the TPW threads? Because...that's been happening to a lot of people...a lot. If you can't accept being a part of the "pushback" crowd, then maybe you should wait until the car has been out for a while and there are more of them sitting around on dealer lots. The car is still in its infancy and as such, a lot of orders are experiencing "issues" like that.
To answer your first come - first serve question though...yes, theoretically that is how it's supposed to work. But it's based on a lot of things...and what you might want to do is see if your dealer actually placed your order appropriately. They may have said they placed it, but actually placed a few more in the time between...or they may have stuck you in too early and then realized their mistake later on. Again, it's been happening more than a few times.

In the world of allocations there is no first come first served. Also, getting a car like this the 1st year is always a pain in the butt. I'd say wait it out though if it bothers you that much.

Show the video , ask for another 10% off and free extended warranty.
If not, walk.

That's exactly what I thought when I first saw it and then I thought it was kind of cool. Then I thought that modern cars store so much data that a GM can probably see when I farted if they hooked the car up to diagnostics. If I had an engine or transmission problem, would this come back to bite me warranty wise?

Yes and there is a whole train of thought that says break them in how you will be driving them. Of course when we play with our engines, GM says no warranty. This is a pretty expensive car to risk future service on.

I don't think what Beavis did in your car will hurt it, but I'm one of those guys who believes that 34 miles is no longer "new"...

I watched the entire video after you mentioned this in the original thread. If he showed all the pulls it was a pretty tame drive overall. He floored it three times which could happen in a 2 mile test drive. I wouldn't sweat this one.

Do it! Buy that car! At least you know exactly how those miles were put there. Seemed mild compared to a bunch of bozos pounding on it in 5 mile clips.

I don't think he drove it any harder or different that you probably would in the first 34 miles. And if you are trying to convince "US" that you would not have to try the fast pedal a couple times to get that "ZL1 650 hp" feeling in the first 100 miles... we ain't buying that either.
Get the car. This guy got scared to death getting to 60 mph in 3 seconds.. you know you would not of let off till you saw 3 digits. |

OP, I'm in the camp that would say walk away even if dealer offers some discount on it. You would have spent 70K+ by the time RMV is done and why spend that kind of money when any potential warranty issue could be questionable. Whether you'll have any engine issues because of those redline shifts and would GM deny any coverage because of improper break in, it's all speculation.
