First Light Snow/Slush Experience with Newly Installed Continental DWS06s
Decided to go with the Continental DWS06s A/S option rather than a dedicated winter & summer set-up a couple of weeks ago. We usually receive less than 20 to 30" of snow each winter here in KC, and based on reviews of several "UHP A/S" I felt this best and most cost effective solution for my situation.
We received about 2-3" of snow last Thursday and I thought I'd share my thoughts on their performance after a few days of driving on light snow, lots of slush, snow-packed roads, and some ice. First, and most importantly, I was finally able to make it out of my neighborhood! Not a significant grade really, but it was enough to keep me at home several times over the last year with the stock summer tires - once even forced to drive in reverse for a couple blocks just to make it back home after a failed attempt. Starting from a stop on a snow-packed or slush covered hill was no issue either. Now we're only talking like a 4-6% grade that I've been able to test them out on so far, but it's steep enough to cause slippage for others as I saw many other vehicles spin on these hills before getting going, while I thankfully experienced none. The tires have also instilled a lot of confidence when cornering and breaking in these conditions as well. We have some mid 50 degree days expected later this week (the high three days ago was 14 degrees, and that's KC for you...) so I look forward to pushing these on drier and warmer roads, but so far I'm incredibly happy with them.

Did you just replace the original 20 inch tires with the Continental DWS06 tires? I'm thinking of doing that, although I have also considered 19 inch wheels and DWS06 tires.

I just put a set on these on my 2010 SS and would definitely recommend them!!! I didn't really want to do the Summer/Winter tire swap 2X a year (which is probably the better method). The SS is my Winter car and so far, not one problem.

I live in KC as well and put a set of these tires on my OEM rims about a month ago. I am happy with them so far.

How are these compared to the stock run flats on dry pavement? Decent? I'm assuming they are quieter too?

I replaced my factory tires at 60 miles so I can't offer much insight on the difference. Maybe the OP can?

Definitely quieter, and I enjoy that. Dry handling between 40-60 degrees these last couple days has been on par or maybe even better, and noticeably better below 40 degrees. I'm sure the stock tires would perform better handling wise at anything above 70 degrees, but I highly doubt even the "spirited" driving I do will allow me to truly appreciate any difference. I look forward to providing some feedback during the warmer months!
