I've been reading a lot from the drag racing section and trying to see what is working with others and what hasn't worked. Getting comfortable with your car and experience is primarily what most of us are struggling with. I know we'll get there. Just look at that section if you haven't a see all the guys and galls putting in some solid work. I found this in the C7 Corvette section and it's awesome! Look halfway down for a poster with name WFarmerz I think it's post#32 and then it's the 3rd video down with his stock Z with CHROME rims 10:43.!! Thought it was cool and gave me some hope, lol!
https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...s-video-2.html Also, just found this article about him, pretty good info. http://www.carsillustrated.com/super...olet-corvette/

Been trying to play around with the launch control on some empty back roads. There is a brand new development being built right behind my house, the roads are in no homes yet, but I haven't been able to get a good launch. I have tried it in Track and Race, off idle it's spin city. Pretty sure it's the combination of a green road and car just overpowering the tires. It was all over the place, you can feel the car pull timing and RPM as it would not let the car bounce off the rev limiter. Track mode with Dry 1 seemed to be best so far right off idle, little spin but traction control kicked in and corrects the car from getting sideways.
Last Saturday after a long day at work and had to go to the company BBQ, I high tailed it to Lonestar Raceway in Sealy to try to get some seat time in and experiment with launch control. First pass was in Tour mode and launched from idle, spun a little but hooked immediately, ran a 12.0 @ 117MPH with a 2.1 60'. Horrible! First time racing in over 10 years! Second pass was much better, Sport mode, competitive drive mode on, still a slight spin, cut a 2.00 60' and ran a 11.80 @ 120MPH, not bad, some improvement. Hot lapped it, same setting and cut a 2.00 60' ran a best of 11.77@120MPH. MPH was getting consistent, but not cutting a 60' I would like. Let it cool for another 30 minutes, got back in line and did a nice burnout, left on launch control and finally manage to cut a 1.95 60', and ran a 11.85@119. By that time, I was done for the night, had to go home and reload to shoot the next morning and my allergies were kicking my but. All runs were with 37PSI on a 1/2 tank with about 450 miles on the odometer. what break in? I hope to get to Royal Purple Raceway on 5/9 or 5/12 to mess around with some other settings. I do notice the car is getting stronger the more I drive it. Hopefully RPR hooks a little better and I can get more MPH out of her. I'm a little jealous of the guys getting in the 124-126MPH range. Only have about 550 miles on her so far. |

Probably about 65-70 degrees with about a 3-4MPH headwind.

Looking at the data available online (wunderground.com), at 4pm it shows 80.6*F, 30.01 baro, 42% humidity, 18-20 mph wind (south/sw) at an altitude of 245 ft. The track faces south east. Density Altitude comes out to ~1780 ft.

Started racing around 8ish or so. So the temps that day definitely dropped a little. 18-20MPH winds would make a difference, but from my memory, it wasn't that fast. I would know those types of winds since I shoot long range and that is a very very noticeable wind speed to shoot and even to drive in. I really only noticed the wind conditions since every once in a while a gust would pick up and I could uncontrollably start to cough because of the crap that was in the air. Allergies suck!

Some say everything off in tour mode, as it offers the softest suspension (weight transfer) Others say Track with everything off, in the automatics it offers the quickest performance with least inputs.

Cars these days are crazy fast off the show room. Last time I was in the 10's was on my CBR954 RR. Which was about 15yrs ago! I've got 800miles on mine and am ready to hit a track which is still about 1:30hrs away and it's 1/8 so...better than nothing I guess. Keep up the hard runs man! I hope to this weekend.

Went to track recently.
DA was about 1700-1800 Unfortunately I only made 2 passes, there was some broken cars and long clean up times and I was tired of waiting. Slightly disappointed in the times, but life goes on. 1.84 60 ft - 11.53 @ 122.85 By comparison, a 2016 Z06 ran 1.80 60ft - 11.42 @ 122.06 So I think on a better, cooler night we both could have done much better. I didn't do any launch control or anything fancy, just hit it from idle in Track mode.

Was the Z06 a Manual or Auto. That's actually a great comparison though. I have been to a lot of track days and Rentals, and I'm yet to see a stock Z06 perform to the numbers I read about on C7 Z06 forums or watch on YouTube. Most have been Low 11.XX passes in stock trim.

Maybe we need a thread in the ZL1 or drag race section to cover this. |
