Whipple IAT’s
Hello everyone,
I’m curious to see what iats everyone is seeing with a whipple on 8 psi. I would like to see what your seeing with or without meth/ethanol and what’s your ambient please. Thank you. |

Mine is 40 over ambient. My temps don't even rise after a pull so far but it's still fairly cool out. Warmest day so far has been 72. I'm on E85 but no meth with 3.5 pulley.

Not whipple, but LT4 conversion and iat2 is under ambient if 50degrees out and below. Otherwise if over 50ambient, 10degrees higher at most when driving. That’s iat1 & iat2. My iat1 is relocated just past the throttle body. I run different coolers than factory.

E85 does not cool iats — only combustion temps.
Meth usually runs only when you hit the goose pedal (WOT). Chiller is about the only thing that cools temps (but not when WOT) while idle or cruising (ac on)... Just an FYI... -Don

I see about 30-50 over ambient for normal and spirited driving, 3.5 pulley, rest of mods in signature. In the summer in 90 deg weather in PA, IAT2 is always 120-140, usually steady in the 130's.

IAT's are going to depend on if you are steady state cruising or going WOT.

E85 does make a difference on a WOT pull. Cooler combustion temps equals lower coolant temp, and that will effect how IAT temps rise during and after a hard pull...it's a chain reaction.
As mentioned above, The OP never specified exactly what conditions to report IAT. Most PD setups or any Forced Induction setup where the IAT is reading the temp feeding post compressor will be 30-50 degrees above the actual out side air temp cruising down the highway. Aside from that, My IAT spark retard tables are set to not pull any timing until 154 degrees and even then it's only -1 degree. So the IAT's don't need to be anywhere close to ambient to get full timing. I would say if your IAT's are climbing above 160-170 after a hard pull, then you might need to look at some further cooling mods if you want full timing all the time. E85 will allow more timing with higher IAT temps being how effective it is at cooling combustion temps and it's resistance to detonation.

The reason I ask, is due to comparison of my car. (Whipple, rotofab) after 3 hard pulls I’m seeing 140-145 in 90 degree ambient in Arizona. Not sure if this would be excessively high but just want to be informed. Also when data logging it seems as the temps for iats take some time to return to normal cruising.
I’m considering the following to help with iats and lower under hood temps Meth injection, only as a iat assist, non fuel support Kooks ceramic coated headers without cats |

My car has lower IATs on a road course (they stay pretty consistently at 10* above ambient) than on a surface road (they can be 30-50* above ambient). Are your IATs high when you're making the pulls, or afterward when you're driving normally?

Typically the IAT only really climb when yuo are either making dyno pulls or going WOT on the street, this is due to the compression effect when you start spinning the supercharger faster. Compression causes heat which causes IAT's to climb.

20-21 degrees. Mine doesn't pull timing until 154.
