I had one of my rear rims replaced a few days after I picked up the car. I didn't really notice it until I washed it and then I thought it was brake dust. I tried a little wax and quickly realized it was the base black or gray coat showing through the silver coat.

I went back and the dealer originally said I did something to it, but show them the coating was still perfectly smooth and they ordered me a replacement. I think it is more widespread than you think, most people probably are not anal enough to really notice.

I think the wheels are spinning as they are painted and sometimes the coating from the robot is not quite thick enough to cover up that base coat.

Keep us updated please. I am getting the std. 5 spokes on my SS. I don't care for the upgraded wheels the factory offers.

I really always wanted the black wheels so this will actually work out good for me.

The car goes to the dealer tomorrow for the repair. I'll post up pics after the wheels are redone, hopefully they come out well.

The dealer said they have never seen this issue before on any wheels but it certainly looks like a paint product problem.
REALLY looking forward to seeing the finished wheel!

Me too. I'm hoping we get it back tomorrow.

Our weather is sucking here right now but, if its not raining and the car is clean, I'll get some pics up this weekend with the gloss black wheels.

Got the wheels on tonight, the shop did a killer job on the glass black paint. Unfortunately they didn't paint the center caps, so I'll have to buy some black SS caps.

Definitely gives the car a meaner look with the black wheels. I'll get some better/closer pics this week after I get the car cleaned up better.

I like the gloss black a whole lot more than the silver paint. Had I ordered my car, I would have opted for the split spoke wheels. I would love to have a set, but they are sure expensive either after market or used off the forum. Great looking car. I'm going to look at mine very closely and hopefully, I can get a re-spray as you did.

Yeah the gloss black looks great...However, I see why Chevy normally does the SS wheels is Satin black. This gloss shows every spec of dust, dirt, water spots, and fine scratches from towels. Gonna be hell to maintain.

At least it will look a little different from all the others, they'll just need a lot of wax.

I vote to keep the silver center caps, but she's a beautiful car either way.

Welcome to the Glossy Black Club!!! They look awesome, i even like the silver caps for some reason. Brake dust sucks for sure but wipes off pretty easy since I've had mine for the past year, as for hairline scratches over time it will happen, i good coat of wheel polish or some wax will help somewhat.

How do the satin black SS center caps look against the gloss black wheels?

I thought about buying the black SS caps but they are in satin only.

Otherwise I'll probably just paint my center caps. The silver caps against the black wheels reminds me of old school cop cars..lol..not exactly the look I was going for.

The satin caps blend in fine. Not a direct match up but you really can't tell when its mounted on the car.

Here is some updated pics, although the lighting was crappy as it was very cloudy outside...I also painted the center caps to match the wheels.

The black wheels definitely make the car look meaner...
