Best way to do a burnout at the track
I kind of feel like an idiot asking a question like this, but I’ve only tried doing a burnout a few times with traction control off. I tried using the foot brake but the car sort of bogged down and wouldn’t do a good burnout. I’m headed to Heartland Park on the 11th with a new wheel/tire combo and thought the line lock method might be a PITA, so I was wondering if there was a way to do the foot brake that I’m missing, or what everyone’s preferred burnout method was. Thanks!

When you tried to do a burnout with traction control off and are in track mode the car will activate launch control which will not allow a burnout.
The line lock does work well but I don't like where it's located in the menu. When car is done with the burnout in the line lock menu it will be in track mode with launch control. I've never been able to get it to launch well despite playing with the settings and I don't like how long it takes to scroll back through the modes while setting at the line. When I drag race the car I put it in track mode and then hold the traction control button (on the center console) for 7 seconds, or until you see both the traction control light and stabilitrack light up on the dash. This will turn everything off and let you have full power (torque management is still there which cannot be turned off at this point) and will allow you to do a foot brake burnout as long and as far as you will like. I also do my 1/8 mile runs in this mode which has yielded me the best times. |

I have used the line lock as well as turning off all the nannies, and while the line lock works great, it is a lot of buttons to push when you have your car on and off a lot in staging lanes....I just feel rushed. I just hold the traction control down for the 8 seconds or whatever it is and turn everything off to do a burnout. I do not press the brake pedal very hard....just enough to keep it from wanting to roll forward.

I keep the car in sport competitive mode at the strip. It completely turns of TC, but keeps some of the stability control safety nets in case you get really out of line. Then I just do a brake-stand in the burnout box. I didn’t have any problems unless I held the brakes too hard. I thought about using the line lock, but this was a lot simpler.

Thanks for all the help/input gentlemen, it’s very much appreciated!
Just got these Hoosier 315/40ZR18’s and 18 x 11 style 41 rims installed earlier today. The Hoosiers are almost exactly the same diameter, 1 full inch wider and have quite a bit beefier sidewalls over the stockers. Hopefully I’ll be able to manage a descent 60’ with these babies

It’s the R7 track tire. I wanted to experiment with a 315 tire that was fairly close to our stock diameter and this was the only option I could find. It’ll be interesting to see the results with the 5” sidewall and more rubber to the road. I also track this car, so if the 60’ sucks ass, at least I’ll get use out of them.
I’m going to start off at 19 psi and go from there.

You can’t access the line lock in the sport comp mode, which is a bummer. I just didn’t want to deal with having to switch back to Track after every engine start. It stays in sport, whereas it always seems to automatically go back to Tour after I shut it off in Track. I didn’t find the line lock necessary myself. A quick double tap and I was good to go every time.

I tried line lock the first few passes with the car, but quickly stopped using it due to it taking too long to get there and then get back out of PTM and turn all the nannies off. After finding out about Sport Competitive Mode, I feel like that's the easiest way to operate the car at the strip, because it will allow burnouts and doesn't get in the way of good 60s like I feel launch control would, at least on the stock tires. Launch control might work fine with a good drag tire.
Come on Chevy, give us an update that adds a drag mode we can get into really easy with the drive mode switch, with the option to use launch control or not, and have line lock already activated and ready to set. Plus drag mode should have all the trans, diff, shock, and torque management tunes to allow these cars to run what they should with 650 HP and TQ, and a 10 speed.
