Ticking Sound After Dyno / LT Headers / CAI Installs

Good evening,

I recently took my car to a shop to install a CAI / Kooks 1 7/8 Long tube Off-Road headers on my 2018 Camaro SS. They then did a Dyno Tune afterwords. When I came t pick it up, I immediately noticed a loud ticking noise that would only get louder as you hit the gas. It's very noticeable and very annoying.

I was reading other forum posts and watching some videos and it seems that other people have had the same issue and think that it's the lifters and some think that its normal. These are mostly older posts though and had no resolution to them.

Here's a video I found that has a 100% match to the sound that I have:

I took it back to the shop and they said that the noise is normal for Camaros with LT Headers in them.

To me this sound is VERY annoying and I find it hard to believe that this is normal.

What do you guys think?

It could be a lifter, but since they just installed headers i would lean towards an exhaust leak. Check for a leak where the header mounts to the heads. Also try re-torquing the header bolts.

They did that and said there was a very minor exhaust leak but that didn't change the noise at all after the fix.

With the engine running and exhaust system hot verify, that the exhaust isn't making contact somewhere all the way back to the muffler. Could be a lifter, but i still have my doubts.

I too have this problem with same installs. Didn't happen at first but a couple months down the road it's got worse. Having my shop guy check it out this week. It is not a good sound even when I'm decelerating I can here it.

Which gaskets did they use, OE or Cometic?

I'm having the same issue but plan on swapping the gaskets out when I get a moment with factory ones.

Did this ever get sorted? I have the exact same issue. Louder on the driver side, gets a bit worse as the car warms up. Only mod I have is Kooks Long tube headers and the GMPP intake. It’s driving me bonkers.

I just ordered Kooks LT headers for my car...should I be concerned about this?

I am getting the install done at a garage though.....

Concerned? Not really. When you do headers (or any exhaust work) there is always the possibility of a leaks. It's just part of it. If you get one, you repair it, no big deal.

I remember from the 5th gen LS3/L99's, exhaust leaks were frequent if not using oem metal exhaust gaskets. Is that what this noise is, I dunno?

Use stethoscope or big screw driver and check out 2 pleases.

1- The fuel line, exactly when the fuel line go to the engine, driver side, here there is fuel check valve , it makes tick.
2- EVAP valve, it’s beside throttle body, BMW cars have tick sound comes from it.

I think in the video up , tick comes from the fuel line, because it’s louder in the driver side

It’s the fuel injection purge valve.
