I can't believe it, Baird GM in Ripon WI finally sold their new yellow 2017 1SS Convertible. That thing was on the lot for almost 2 years and they wouldn't budge on price. MSRP was like 46.8k and they wouldn't take 10k off even in the winter..good for them.

For the math challenged...that's just a little over 4,100 units per month

It's only going to get worse considering nobody wants to buy a "cancelled" model.

Yep...I remember it took a long time for the last of the Pontiac G8's to clear off the lots after Pontiac got Order 66'd in 2009

Win, Place, Show: The Pony Car Sales Numbers Are In
Well, at least for the first half of 2019.

And they’re off! With car sales for the first half of 2019 in the books, we’re officially seeing how the Chevrolet Camaro, Dodge Challenger, and Ford Mustang stand in the race for pony car sales domination.

Coming in third is the venerable Chevrolet Camaro with a sum of 24,516 vehicles delivered so far. That’s down 3.4 percent to the first half of 2018. It’s surely a letdown for the folks at General Motors, too, who must have hoped the sports car’s 2019 model year facelift would push sales up relative to last year.

Just ahead of the Chevy sits the Dodge Challenger, with Fiat Chrysler Automobiles finding homes for 28,668 units of its big coupe. Although it currently bests the Camaro in overall sales, the Challenger’s sales are down a whopping 23 percent compared to this time last year. Where this leaves the burly Dodge at the end of the year is anyone's guess.

Finally, the Mustang holds onto its first place position, with 38,542 units of the Blue Oval's pony car entrant sold. Still, that’s 9.2 percent off from the same time last year. While the Mustang keeps its sales crown for the time being, it’s worth noting that it's the Camaro that’s actually seeing the least volatility in its sales figures. Hopefully, the upcoming 760-horsepower Mustang Shelby GT500 helps turn things around by bringing additional foot-traffic into Ford showrooms before the end of the year.

Regardless, it seems likely the Mustang will maintain its sales dominance come 2020. Only time will tell, though, if it's the Chevy or the Dodge that ultimately finishes behind it.

this seems like a positive. Is this the result of lower incentives?

Nothing has been announced nor will it.

When GM shut down Pontiac (and Saturn and Hummer) sales were poor. It wasn't just the G8. So all of those sold badly and did it perhaps have anything to do with buying from a company in the throws of bankruptcy? Even IF GM had announced the car was cancelled or shelved, and they HAVE NOT announced anything, comparing to Pontiac isn't the same thing.

Pontiac actually wasn't a bad selling brand and GM did not want to shut it down. They were forced to shut it down by the government in order to get the bail out. It was shut one brand down or don't get a bail out. Unfortunately, Pontiac got the axe.

They didn't kill Buick because of China. Buick has been a big seller over there.

Also, at the time, Buick was neck and neck or outselling Cadillac here.

LOL I was there and this is not the truth. GM shut down 3 brands in the bankruptcy so saving Pontiac would have been easy if it were profitable. All the government did was force GM to take a hard look at what was profitable. For example, the Corvette was neutered and simply a C6.5. It was the Government that asked GM "don't you make a lot of money on the Corvette?" So it became the C7 as we know it thanks to Uncle Sam. Prior to the bankruptcy it was a mid-engine car that basically taken back to a carry over space frame and chassis with some fresh body panels.

Now if you want to talk about the contractually obligated 5,000 additional layoffs(on top of the first wave) that were required to get the bailout...……...

Here is the awesome Pontiac lineup at the time.

Torrent (rebadged Equinox)
G5 (rebadge Cobalt 2-door)
G6 (yayyyy not a rebadge)
G8 (rebadged Holden Commodore)
Grand Prix
Solstice
Vibe (Toyota Matrix)

Nothing special in that. Nothing of volume or worth saving.

If your statement were correct, simply shutting down Saturn or Hummer would have been sufficient.

Buick is around 1,000,000 units in China.

They have a much bigger line up of cars there that we don't get here or were eliminated here.

They got the all new Verano that was cancelled here.

They got the facelifted Lacrosse which was cancelled here.

They also have a Buick mini-van, the GL6 and GL8.
