Can a catch can be added without jeopardizing warranty?

If I'm going to catch can I'd like to look into it early.

However, seems you have to take off the SC lid, guessing this could be seen as messing with the engine.

Any thoughts? Also, any thoughts on the state of no-catch-can LT4s after a lot of miles? (I figure some of you will have seen the valves by now).

Thanks. . .
Matt

Which can you looking at? I saw the Cordes one the other day and it looks really nice. I like the fact that it’s vented to the atmosphere.

Heh - I had not gotten that far, though I've seen videos with this can and that. I'd probably go 'high end' or simple if that's a distinguishing factor; but I want to know first if it's viable.

I'm wary on truly discarding 5 years of engine warranty.

It's more than taking off the lid. You have to raise the front of the supercharger to change the pcv fitting. The bolts holding the supercharger to the engine are torque to yield, so they should not be reused. You technically need to buy new bolts before doing the installation.

Unlike other engines, a catch can on the LT4 is not a simple inline addition to the PCV system. It requires significant modification.

Just be aware that GM can and has denied warranty claims on engines with a catch can installed. Not bumper-to-bumper stuff, but powertrain failures.

Here's a perfect example:

If you're concerned about the warranty, I recommend you postpone installing a catch can until the warranty period for your car has expired.

A catch can will likely void the engine portion of your warranty. Fortunately, you can uninstall it and you don't need to tune for it.

For some It’s a lot of work to undo If you have to take car in for warranty, you may want to hold off for a while. But me personally after removing my lid and seeing the oil inside I’m glad I did put one in.

Wait until the warranty is up is my advice!

Yes...but I would still remove it if making a major warranty claim

Installed correctly, there is absolutely no way a catch can (especially non vented, closed loop design like the Elite E2-X) can cause engine failure

with the ZL1 being an enthusiast car,
they could have had a can from the factory.
with all the electronic qizmo bullshit you could have had a
dashboard reminder to check/drain the can.
install it in an ez access location like the the battery charge posts

I've had the heads off of my car several times and the buildup on the valve heads and stems was very minimal. I wouldn't risk my warranty. Wait until you're out of the warranty period before adding a can.
