If History is a lesson the new ZL1 will be .. 670 HP!!
The original announcements from GM stated the new 2012 ZL1 was "estimated" to be "550 HP/550 Trq" ..... but actually came in at 580/556.
So, if it is actually "Camaro vs Everybody".... we should be pleasantly surprised that it really will be a breathtaking, iconic, incremental introduction that exceeds the "estimated 640 HP" and our expectations! Even TRAN reported the press release... there are many more. http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showpo...24&postcount=2 https://www.netcarshow.com/chevrolet/2012-camaro_zl1/ http://www.motortrend.com/news/2011-...fighter-30703/ http://www.prnewswire.com/news-relea...115638209.html http://blog.caranddriver.com/2012-ch...-around-47000/

I would say that is a great estimation number! I am willing to bet that the stock ZL1 will put down 610+ rwhp/rwtq on the dyno from the showroom floor. BUT, it will never be an OFFICIAL number due to many reasons. At least imo of course haha. So... They won't rate it above C7Zo6, just like how they didn't rate the SS above the C7. SS's we are putting down 10+ rwhp. It's about 18 more hp which puts the camaro @ 473+ crank and that is 13 more than the c7s with NPP (460hp).

As much as I hope so, it is still just speculation.
But my fingers are crossed.

I'm not even thinking about the eventual power rating, at this point they cant screw it up. Get in the car at 640 and there wont be a face here that doesn't need a stick to beat the smile off of it. But for the sake of amity the power rating will be 645, less than its Corvette cousin but slightly above its estimate. No matter what it actually makes...

I'm still thinking 665 or so, then the Z06 will get a jump to 670hp for 2017.

Well, if history was to be followed, the CTS-V would be making 566 hp and the ZL1 would be making 590 hp.

RECLAIM the ACCLAIM of Brand Leadership!
My belief (yes, speculation) is that with the GM attention to performance the MY 2017 model year will see a boost - Z06 to the 670-700 range and the ZL1 within close proximity. Hopefully GM is actually intending to "RECLAIM the ACCLAIM" of technical specs in addition to the strip/track specs. Of course there will be those that say.... its just the strip/track results that count, but I would conjecture that the tech specs of HP and Torque are important features that establish brand leadership before the race has even started! Who wants another brand to retain the title of "Most Powerful Muscle Car Ever Produced". Not this Agent. Now, I don't believe we have to have the outright title (literally) with the highest actual number, but possible the "Pound for pound, Most Powerful Muscle Car Ever Produced". We shall see where GM plants their flag. In the "before" numbers and/or "after" numbers (at the strip/track). It would be nice to own the UNDISPUTED title. http://www.businessinsider.com/dodge...at-2014-7?op=1

Agree, *007 - Chevy hasn't announced any specs yet of the 2017 Z06 but suspect it will have increased power levels over the '15 and '16 versions. If so, the '17 ZL1 will come in higher than the "estimated 640hp" that is advertised today.....but still come in a little below the '17 Z06 numbers.

The thing is, how many times does GM bump the HP on an engine? The LS3? LS9? LS7? L99? Once an engine comes out in a vehicle that vehicle rarely, if ever gets a HP bump. 2nd gen CTS-V never got a bump (even when the ZL1 with the LSA came out with more power), ZL1 never got a bump, even when the GT500 came out the next year with way more power. C6 with the LS3 never got a bump. You see where I'm going with this?
