I think the bigger issue is too many owners jump on the throttle before 10 quarts of oil is up to at least 180 F - that probably take a good 10 to 15 minutes

I bet there is a lot of truth to this. Not many people know or care. I keep an eye on it every time I drive the car, which is almost daily. I use the 175F mark on the gauge in the "performance" menu as my barometer. I keep that as my default display. I'd say it takes a good 10 minutes to reach the 175 mark with light throttle driving under 2500 rpm.

With all of my thoughts on this and general carefree attitude toward it, I'm sure I've sealed my fate to have a failure soon.

True, but if the pump is so weak that cold oil causes it to break, that's a shitty oil pump. Oil temp should be a non issue.

True but I let my engine warm too before driving it aggressively.

I think mine has failed today (7/11/23).

3/2017 with 22,222 miles. Reads at normal temp 18psi at idle and 40psi at 4,000 rpm then decreases. Joy...

That’s my build date also. Definitely sounds like phase one of fail, which was described by katech Zach. I would tow to dealer. Did you use 0w/40 oil and warm it up prior to driving?

I went with the factory recommended 5w30 but went with AMS Synthetic. I always warm my car to temp. I believe that this is Phase 1 of the fail as well.

Just for giggles, I held the car at a commanded hold at a 1000rpms and the OP was at 27 to 28psi.

I went ahead and ordered the Katech pump last week and I got it this week. I didn't install it yet, I will wait until phase 1 fail, or after warranty in 2027.

Please let me know how you're progressing.

For those interested, I had an informal poll at the CAMARO NATIONALS last weekend. I came across 4 2017/2018 LT4 ZL1's. One had an oil sending unit fail, the other 3 were still going strong with mileage from 7k to 33k

No doubt this is a very real issue. Im wondering though, why are we not hearing about failures in the LT4 CTS-V, SS's, and stingrays. they all use the same pump. I know some suggested that the pump is stressed more in an LT4, but I just don't see how that's the case. The oil pump does not see stresses from boost pressure. Its driven by the crank. I can see it being stressed more in a cammed situation where the engine is allowed to rev higher. But not in stock form. Please correct me if im wrong. Maybe Katech_Zach can weigh in.

I'd say it's stressed a little more with belt tension. That big belt hanging off the end makes for an additional moment that is pulling against the pump internals. That moment is larger than what's in an LT1, certainly. Whether it's enough to cause the problem, I don't know

That's a very nice perpective Rob. If that's the case, then it's not an issue of the pump itself, but an issue of the setup oil pump-tension belt-supecharger. Also, if that's the case, maybe GM hasn't improved/updated the oil pump in recent models, but the way these 3 components sit and work together. Food for thought...

But they have updated the plumbing around the pump in the newer 6th gens, which led me to the hypothesis that its some king of fluid-resonance-induced fatigue.

That's very interesting.
By newer, do you mean post 2018 cars?
I have a 2019.
When did these plumbing updates appear?
Can you actually see the differences?
