305/50/R20 Nitto drag radial

Wanted to ask if anyone has ran this drag radial, specifically asking about the sidewall height, advantages/disadvantages etc. I understand this tire has a lower speed rating than the 30 and 35 sidewalls also offered in this height and width. Anyone with any feedback on this 50 sidewall version would be highly appreciated.

Looking at the size its a full 15% larger diameter than the normal tyre and with a heap more sidewall (57%). I dont think it would even fit inside the guards, but if you measured your current tyre and doubled the sidewall height it might give you an idea of where it will sit

Way too tall, will never fit. Even 305/35/20 is a close call. Unless you’re talking about a much smaller rim…?

Yes, apparently it mounts on an 8.5" rim, I am sure it would balloon a bit, but nittos tend to run small compared to other tires. I remember my nitto 315/35r17 555r was barely larger than the 275/35r17 non drag radial I was replacing back in the day.

305/50 is a truck tire. terrible choice for a tire, especially for an m6 car.

I just figured the meatier sidewall would provide a better launch on a lighter car. I don't road course the car, just looking at options to cut at least a 1.7 60 ft on the strip AND the street. Not looking to run mickey et on the street or anything stickier that won't last at all.

Is today April fools day? That’s crazy big.

Do something smaller in diameter that will still fit over the brakes…. 18 (maybe even 17) wheels and drag tires. I’m certain you can find other setups on the site.

I was just looking to toss something sticky on the factory 20×8.5" wheels, this seemed to fit the bill. I guess I might be the first to try it out. Many have had good results on 20" drag radials with the lesser sidewall heights available.

Also, my rear brakes are much smaller than yours, I have an LT1.

No way. It’s borderline on a 9.5” stock SS rear wheel.

Well, the tire is approved by nitto for a 20×8.5 wheel. I would like to see if it would mount and not rub. They are a tad heavier, haha.

This will give you an idea of what the clearance is on a 305/45-17. Also look at the comparison of diameters. I’m all for trying something new/different but I don’t know how you could fit a 32” tire on the rear unless it tucks.

Looks like it will definitely have a nice rake if it will even mount without rubbing. It was a shot in the dark. I'm just gonna keep a look out for matching SS rears and go with a 275/35r20 nitto drag radial later down the road.

I’m in the market for a DR setup too. I’ll keep an eye on this thread for updates.

The 305/50/20 is 32" tall and weighs 44lbs. It will cause Stabilitrak to freak out unless you put a 31" tall tire on the front. You have to keep the front and rear tire height within 1".
