Dash cam and radar detector hard wire install, using Gen5DIY plug and play harness

I will will be installing a dash cam, BlackVue DR-900S 2-ch , and later a V1 Gen2. However I will splicing the Gen5DIY harness, the dash cam, and the radar detector wires together. They will feed from the same power source but with fuses going to each. 2 amp fuse for the radar detector and 10 amp fuse for my dash cam, since I will be wired to an external battery pack to run the camera while the car is off. Otherwise you would run power to dash cam with 5 amp fuse, or what ever is recommended by the manufacturer.

I forgot how much I paid for the Gen 5DIY harness, which I ordered with the optional RJ 11 connector for the radar detector. However, I ended cutting off that RJ 11 cable. I liked the BlendMount kit HT-1096 and aesthetics better. So I’m splicing that to the Gen5DIY harness. The radar detector won’t be up until BlendMount makes me that adaptor that mounts to the rear view mirror. At least the wiring will be there and ready to plug and play.

Running the power cables, both for the cameras and power to the battery pack. Right along the passenger side floor, tucked under the plastic with a plastic trim tool, goes in very easy. I decided to hide the battery pack in the trunk area. Not sure how far it will go, let’s find out…

This was the part I initially lost, so I had to order one from BlackVue, and forgot it at my other house. I’ll post some more pics later and finish up my write up. It’s all done and up and running.

The 2-ch cameras are connected to a BlackVue external back up battery, that can power the dash cam for up to 20 hrs. Without drawing power from the car battery at all, only when the car is in use to charge the battery pack once again.

I had to remove 3 push pins that held the carpet enclosure between the rear seats and the trunk. I ran the cables between the seats and the plastic arm rest, then fished it to the rear of the seat.

Then once I removed the thin molded carpet strip that seats behind the seats, I fished the power cables in the same route as the power cable that goes to the battery. I didn’t have to removed the other molded carpet, as I only needed it to move it an inch or two route then cables in the same path. Then I reached in from the battery opening and grabbed a hold of the power cables.

I used an industrial Zip tie, to secure my battery pack to the battery brace. Then I had to drive for 45 minutes, in order charge the battery pack to last 20 hrs recording time. Will post more pics later.
