Engine cover removal

Hey guys has anyone removed there whole engine cover yet?

I started last night and ran out of light. Once you take the side covers off the plastic plugs are not easy to get out with out breaking.(I hate those plastic snap in plugs)

The wires run through them with zip tie plugs so it's not as easy as a normal snap on cover.

Anyways if someone has removed there whole cover any pointers? Thanks in advance

Just cut them and buy new ones, I got a package off amazon for 7 bucks. I plan on removing mine this weekend to paint it.

I pulled mine off the first week and have left it off. I don't like fake plastic stuff even though the engine underneath is not that attractive. But for me neither is the cover. So I chose authentic over fake.

As mentioned just cut the zip ties. You'll need a 10mm deep well socket to get off the four post bolts that mount the side covers. Underneath the center plastic part is what GM calls an acoustic skull cap (a fiber sound insulation pad) that you will have to slowly peel off the back of the manifold where it appears to have a little adhesive on it to hold it in place. Take it slow and you can lift it off without tearing it too much. Mine tore just a little on one corner but still usable. If you plan to take the cover off to paint it and then put it back on - you can just leave the sound pad alone.

Here is a photo for the look with the cover fully off.

Well I got it off I installed a oil catch can and a new engine cover. I managed not to break any clips and used the same ones with a plug tool I bought at Canadian tire.

Anyone that removed theirs want to sell them? I'm looking for a set to have custom painted.

If you were in Ontario I would not much into shipping though I might just keep it as a spare and paint it a different scheme for a change one day

I took a quick look and couldn't figure out how to get the side covers off that overlap the engine cover. Do they just snap on and off?

Yes, if you lift from the center near the engine cover they will pop right up and slide off.
