Update: I know it’s been a long time since I followed up on my issue with slinging grease out of the factory axles on track days. What I did last year before Camaro Fest and NCM seemed to work for me. I pulled the axles and cut apart the factory clamps and packed the axles with the Redline2 axle grease. That stuff was a little expensive but seemed to not turn to liquid on the drivers side like the OEM axle grease did. The Redline grease had a much higher melting temp and seemed to do the trick. I didn’t cared for the non pliable material the OEM boots are made of but I had to reuse them as I didn’t have anything else to use in their place. I even took my spare axles and replaced them with this $30 a tube grease.

First I’ve seen this thread as I’ve only been road racing the past couple of years. I was busting axles left and right - I’m also lowered on Hotchkis springs. I don’t know why people think Hendrix is a joke, but I talked to him about my issues - totally nice guy - he actually talked me out of buying axles from him and trying the offset bushings first. Wouldn’t you know it, I’ve had no issues since. The car also makes nearly 500 at the wheels, sees road course and drag strip. I don’t care what any naysayers convince themselves, Hendrix offset differential bushings cure axle issues.

My take on the problem. I think the failure is a result of the rubber boot ribs rubbing together. The ribs would not rub when the car is at OE ride height but they start to touch when lowered. he high speed heats up the rubber to the point it degrades and comes apart. Every winter I would clean the ribs and lightly apply some Dow 111 Molykote silicone valve/seal lubricant.

I was only lowered for a few years and traded the car last fall so I cannot say with certainty that what I did was a fix or that my perception of the problem was correct.

I wouldn’t mind trying the offset diff bushings as I have already changed out the OEM bushings to poly and delrin. But autocross class rules prevent me from using bushings that change the offsets.

As for the boots causing the heat, I don’t think that is the major culprit. The major culprit I believe is the angle of the knuckles inside the axle on a lowered vehicle. I think the change inclination puts more stress or pressure on the knuckles and that makes for the higher temps, thus the grease turns to a liquid state and comes out the boot seals. The boot seals were never meant to hold in melted axle grease. Changing my grease to the 900 F temp grease has helped a ton. I think OEM axle grease liquidfies at like 500 F degrees. They make a better axle grease that goes up to like 1200 F but man it’s like $130 per tube.

I'm trying to disassemble the outer CV joint to grease it. How do I remove it from the shaft?

I would like to know if when you guys are changing the axles out are you using a real OEM AC Delco axles or replacements?

I've only used factory axles with a GM parts sticker or the GForce Outlaws. I tried a cheap aftermarket axle on my truck years ago and it lasted one outing. There was very little grease in it. I hear they are easier to assemble that way.

Yeah when I replaced my axles the first time I used the rock auto cheapies and they made more noise than the wore out ac delco's. So then I replaced them with real ac delco and all the noise was gone.

Question on the Hendrix Offset Bushings...How low will they let you go before axle angle becomes an issue again?

Not thinking of slamming my car or anything, was just curious.
