I cannot see GM denying a warranty claim if you use either a PF-64 or a UPF64R as long as there is no tune updates in the computer.

Both are approved GM filters. I would be more worried if I had an aftermarket filter on mine and the pump failed...

I don't see any reason they would deny warranty when it is in there own parts list to fit this vehicle.

After reading your statement I am torn between the filter to use on my next oil change.
To be fair, I did not ask for clarification of that statement. It is totally possible that the UPF64R would have also been acceptable. I suppose they did not want to see an aftermarket filter.

I would imagine you’re right on that point Stephen! At least that is what would make sense!

I would approach that dilemma with - Hey... Maybe new filter will make your oil pump last longer... No towing to service, no dealing with warranty repair... Huge plus in my book.

I only use the OEM filter PF-64, the UPF-64R may be better, however it has higher by-pass setting of 35psi vs. PF-65 22psi, and I didn't want to risk changing any of that not knowing what that might do internally with the motor.

Best regards,
Dave

Looks like there's a blue and a black UPF-64R. Any difference?

Ok guys
Which oil…
Which filter…
Start to put a mag oil drain plug in place of the non mag OEM
And You will start to catch more shit than the filter will…
Plus if you have some day more metal than expected may be a signal of an incoming oil pump failure…

Correct!! Even with the PF64R the filtration is smaller therefore it places more pressure in wetsump setups.

PF64R is more for drysump setups like the z06..
