Hey all, it has been awhile since you've heard from us. We will have an announcement VERY SOON. You won't have to worry about seeing another failure from an oil pump, put it that way.

Shame won't be in time for my build as we are changing the pump when we do the cam. Hopefully going in shop by months end.

GM would expect zero catastrophic LT4 engine failures and they would recall these cars if there were evidence of systematic defects so something's not right here. There should not be numerous LT4 oil pump failures.

Looking forward to it!
I plan to take my engine apart over the winter months, and install a new oil pump, before my old one blows up.
No GM warranty for my car here in Europe, so i'm not taking any chaces.

Ok everyone as you seen it took them 2 try’s to get my oil pump in however now I have the car back and it seemed fine, but it’s been a week and at first I was babying the car just to try and let the pump break in some. However at WOT I’m getting a bad stumble so we data logged it the car is calling for 2900psi from the fuel pump but the actual is only 1200psi. My low side pick up from tank is 78psi so it’s good, could I have ruined the fuel pump by driving the car with low oil pressure Or possibly rounded out the cam lobe? We didn’t see any metal in the oil pan or filter.. the car would return to normal oil pressure when on the gas the only time it would drop low was sitting at idle, so that’s why the shop assumed it was the sending unit at first and told me to drive it on up there.. we seen the car had learned a 10% increase for more fuel, it was learned.. we took that out tonseenifnit made a difference and it did not! 🤷*♂️ What next?? Any ideas I’m thinking replace fuel pump and white it’s out inspect cam lobe with inspection camera, gotta be one of the two if say.... I’m so pissed about this’n really needs to do something about this issue

Ruined the fuel pump by driving the car with low oil pressure? GM hasn't used a mechanical fuel pump in camaros since they ditched carburetors back in the late 1980s.

Your fuel pump is electric. So, there is zero chance that your low oil pressure affected the fuel pump.

There is another post somewhere about a voltage issue to the fuel pump that was causing starvation issues. I will see if I can find that for you...

Hold on. I would like to think I’m well versed in engines since I’ve built tons of stuff from BBC to SBF to stroked Mopars. I will say i don’t recall opening an LT engine yet. Just sayin.
But. Guys are changing camshafts to achieve a larger fuel lobe correct? I believe so. If this is the case and I’m pretty sure it is then low oil pressure can most definitely cause camshaft damage, which if the LT has a fuel lobe, I think there is a possibility his fuel problem could be from the low oil pressure.
Again I could be wrong.

I'm pretty sure the high pressure pump on direct injection cars is ran off a cam lobe.

"To supply fuel to the high-pressure direct injection system, there are two fuel pumps, an electric supply pump in the tank and a mechanical pressure pump underneath the intake. The mechanical pressure pump runs off a tri-lobe wing on the camshaft."

Sorry to point it out but you are not correct. These cars use both. There is an electric fuel pump in the tank to get fuel to the motor. The direct injection system operates on high pressure. The high pressure pump is mechanical and driven off a cam lobe located on the rear of the cam.

Then I stand corrected. There are 2 pumps, not just the one in the tank. But, I do stand by my recollection that several members of the forum have experienced fuel starvation issues from the in tank pump. Look it up.

I think we can add another 2018 ZLE to that list. Waiting on dealer diagnosis.
