Help! 2012 zl1 exposed carbon Fiber insert - Camaro5 Chevy Camaro Forum / Camaro ZL1, SS and V6 Forums

Hi All,
Need help! Long time follower and I believe this is my first post. Anyway, to no fault of my own my exposed carbon fiber hood insert was damaged and deemed to be non repairable by local body shops and Chevy dealers. It appears that they are not available through Gm or the online Gm parts sources. The responsible party actually purchased one from a Gm parts online resource only to have his money refunded the next day being told that the part is not available and considered obsolete. The responsible party knows they probably will have to pay a premium price. Car is very low miles and mint other than the now non repairable ecf hood insert. Any help anyone can provide would be extremely appreciated. Does anyone know where I can get one or anyone have one I can buy? Unfortunately I have read some bad stuff about aftermarket ones and am only interested in OE. Thanks for your help!

I would check out Lee C Parts. They have tons of ZL1 parts.

Hawksmotorsports has about 30 zl1 in the yard. Be prepared to pay too dollar for that part. Good luck.

IIRC, last time I checked, a genuine GM exposed carbon insert for a 5th gen was running $3,000.00

One option is to have your insert either painted black like the original black ones were made, or perhaps have it wrapped in a carbon fiber patter wrap.

No I don't, sorry. Even in the good old days new ones were hard to find.

Saw a couple of used ones on Ebay for 2K but you wont know condition until you receive it. I don't know the extent of the damage and also don't know your skillset, but I would look at repairing it. Not much different that taking an item and adding carbon fiber to it, you just need to follow the weave pattern.
