I think you need to fold the rear seats down to get in the trunk and pull the trunk release handle.

Wonder what the solution would be in a convertible? Maybe interrupt the top going down and reach in from over the rear quarter?

Don't know about the 6th gen's, but the 5th gen convertibles have a key switch trunk release located between the rear seat cushion and the side panel on the drivers side.

No, If you have no power, you can't operate the top. There is a keyhole (for the door key) behind the rear seat back to release the trunk. They even supply a small plastic extension 'wrench' to get more torque on the key. I haven't tried it yet, but I imagine it's not too easy to turn.

When I had my trunk latch issue where it would not open the techs had to remove the back seat to get into the trunk.

By trunk latch issue do you mean the electric one or the key operated one?

as I disconnected my batt in storage a few times a year, I got tired of folding the rear seats and crawling thru to get to the trunk release. solved with a 4 foot dowel, the hook from a hanger and some duct tape to attach the hook. Much easier from the back seat. You could even do it just leaning into the car.

The actual latch that holds the trunk lid closed. Would not open with remote or button on bumper. Had to be forced then replaced.

So the techs removed the back seat? Why didn't they use the key latch?

Key Latch? There is no key hole if that is what you mean. The remote and other trunk releases did not work.
