Sand or cat litter?

To anyone who drives in the winter do you have sand in your trunk or cat litter?
Putting 2 buckets in for weight and in case I get stuck what do you think is better sand or cat litter for traction?
Thanks

I don’t carry either but when I was a road trooper I typically had two bags of salt not our cars ever got stuck which was amazing here in Indiana. I’ve heard litter is better as it’s more coarse where as sand is fine and will sift into the snow or spin away on ice

With all the technology in the car you don't need anything. Shovel and snow brush is all you really need.

3 50lb bags of sand in a plastic bin for less than $10. Use the Weathertech blocking system so it doesn’t move around.

Nothing.. damned car weighs almost 4000 pounds and snow tires kinda have a clue how to work.

Need the weight - practice driving in snow more - nannies on/nannies off.. and you wont need it.

2 bags of sand on each side of trunk. No winter tires. If its too bad for snow mode, im working from home. I can drive in 3 inches pretty decent. Drive SLOW. Dont gas corners. Gain speed on straight lines. Coast as much as possible. Slow down a distance of over 5 car lengths away on snowy roads. Dont panic break ever. Never feel forced to drive faster due to someone behind you. Take all corners slow (coasting as much as possible) Dont force a stop at a yellow light, if needed (and know its safe) flow through with grace. You should be fine. Up in Cleveland.

ALSO, cat littler. It smells better.

Growing up in NY I always carried bags of cat litter in my trunk for the winter. Yes winter tires are great and all, but if you do get stuck somewhere(GASP! It can happen even on winter tires, especially on that frozen form of water called ice.) the litter is extremely helpful for traction.

I got Michelin Xice 3 snow tires , I'll probably put the cat litter
In a couple buckets over the rear wheels. I drove rear wheel drive
Before but that was in the 70's & 80's.

Get real tires. A bunch of extra weight in your trunk isn't going to help you stop.

The point of the cat litter/sand is not to help you stop, but if you get stuck to give you the traction to get out. It also helps add weight to the ass end on a nose heavy car to keep the balance, although most modern muscle/pony/sport cars are getting closer to a 50/50 balance. Proper snow tires is only half the solution. They aren't magic that instantly make you the best driver in the world.

If you bothered to read OP stated he had Michelin Xice3 tires.
