1 more solo XC to meet the hour requirement, the 3hr checkride prep, then the checkride.... I've waited way too long for this

Like the written test, you’re not held to 100% on the oral. As long as you demonstrate you generally know what you need to, you will pass.

It’s been a long time since my PPL ride, but as I recall it was a lot of airspace, cloud clearance requirements, sectional chart symbols, etc.

Also, as flight instructor I generally knew what the various examiners were likely to ask. I always made sure my students knew what they needed to know, but especially the things each DPE was going to focus on. Hopefully your CFI knows your DPE and can give you some advice.

You’re going to be nervous, we all were on the big day. Just compartmentalize it, be likable and do your best. The examiner doesn’t want to fail you so just try not to give him/her a reason to! Good luck!

When is it? Do you still have time to prep?

The flight school I instructed at had a great method of having students do the oral. It worked extremely well, and we had a really high pass rate.

What you do is rather than sit down and wait for the examiner to ask you a question, you take charge. When you go in, you know exactly what they are going to ask you for because it's all in the PTS. Start with your documents. Go in there, when they sit down, say, "Ok. I know you need this documentation. Here is everything that show that I've met the requirements for certification, and recent flight experience." After that, tell them what your privileges and limitation are. Then explain medicals.

Basically, rather than letting the DE question you, treat is like a presentation. You show them everything they need before they have to ask for it. You can do that because you have to PTS - though I guess they're calling it the "Airman Certification Standards" now.

As others have said, don't beat yourself up when you make a mistake. In fact, call yourself out. Just say, "I screwed that up <then explain why/how>." Don't pretend you didn't make a mistake. They noticed.

No, lol. My laptop died on me, so I haven’t been on here much. I haven’t scheduled it yet... weather has been terrible and really unpredictable over the past week or 2, so I haven’t been able to get my last XC done. The DPE I’m using was recommended to me by a friend and is very experienced, but I have a new CFI, so he doesn’t know what he’ll expect. I’m trying to ask around and see if anyone has tips on what he typically focuses on. I think I’ll do fine and a lot of it is just me overthinking everything. Anybody know Buddy Dawsey by chance?

I spend way too much on that. 92 gallon tanks. I did burn 12gph on my last trip, so that’s nice

I'm working out of Pratt's new engineering building for the next 6 months (first pic), and went through the Hangar Museum today (following pics). Most interesting thing was an experimental turbofan/turboprop engine, the Pratt & Whitney/Allison 578-DX. It was pushed off into a lonely corner but was pretty eye-catching. Allison was a gas turbine company owned by GM, so its more relevant to this forum!

That distinct look of the Corsair will always put in the special category, but I'm a P51 fan first and foremost .

As far as all time favorites, nothing on this planet comes close:

Talk about an aircraft that was way before its time!
