Dyno comparison of LT1 VS LS7 vs LS3
Thought it was a pretty neat comparison, I had seen it before but came across it again today and thought someone else may find it useful.

The LT1 falls on its ass at 4800 rpm. I wonder what causes that.

LT-1 is right with the LS7 in the lower parts of the torque curve. That's a really good sign for how it will get around a track in 3rd gear on the manual gear box.

I also wonder why LT1's TQ drops quickly after 4800?
Here is a dyno chart of a 2015 Mustang GT and the TQ stays pretty flat between 4000 and 5000. Last edited by Z_Rocks; 09-04-2015 at 08:13 PM. |

Even though the torque drops off more abruptly than the others, it still remains above the LS3 throughout the whole rev range. There must be some kind of restriction that causes it to drop like that. Probably has something to do with the cam, the LT1 has displacement on demand, right?

The beauty of having DOHC with the ability to retard and advance the timing on the go.

When I see the HP and TQ meeting like that, at such a low rpm, my thoughts INSTANTLY go to air flow. But idk much about the LT1 engine. Thats kinda why I wanted the mods to start a "Performance" section. The engine and tranny are new to most of us. Would be nice to have a section where we could all learn about them together.

What I MEANT to say was, it appears that the LT1 drops off in TQ earlier than the LSx engines. Which makes me wonder if its running out of breath too soon? Which, after re-reading, I see everyone has asked the same ???

i mean, chevy has modern 4cyil Turboīs, V6īs and V6 with turbo all with DOHC and VVT but their 8cyl. have only 1cam and 2valve/cyl. thatīs completely outdated. sure they compensate it with more capacity but our magazine wrote " Itīs a funny mix what chevy offers us in their C7 engine."
