I was thinking a key as well. looks like an old style trunk lock. I thought maybe it was the release for the top cover - in case you have to manually put it up - but the instructions for putting up the top manually in the owners manual doesnt mention using the key to release the cover.
Looks like we have a mystery - maybe tomorrow Ill put the key in and turn it.... |

Its on page 41 in the 2017 manual. I dont think they included this info in the 16 manual....
