GM Performance brake pads
Evening all
I just ordered the 6 piston GM performance upgrade kit for my SS and I am having some trouble finding some info. I am in Australia and customs is going to grab the kit on its way in, as I expected, and they wont release it until I can prove there is no asbestos in the kit. I have contacted Brembo and GM but with no luck yet. Can anyone shed some light on a part number or something for the pads that come in the kit so I can look deeper and see if I can get an SDS or something? The GM page only says 'performance brake pads" which isnt very helpful. Thanks |

Our OEM brake pads are manufactured by Ferodo, I'd try to contact them and request a data sheet: https://www.ferodo.us/contact-us.html

As to asbestos in automotive pads-
When did disk brake pads stop using asbestos? As with all usage of asbestos, this use was banned in 1999 , however many still ask the questions as to whether or not such a use is still seen. The only exception to the rule was that asbestos brake pads were allowed to be fitted to pre-1973 vehicles until 2004, meaning that there is a chance that a number of older vehicles still, to this day, contain asbestos. A little more research determined that this is true for both the US and UK. It also reminds me of when I used to purse my lips and blow the dust out of my '71 Yamaha's brake drums so it didn't create any drag when I didn't need it... sometimes a little understanding is dangerous, but I'm still kickin' despite buying mercury by the ounce at the hardware store as a child to play with bare handed and chasing the DDT fogger truck every summer when they sprayed for mosquitoes (unfortunately I was fast and able to stay with it for blocks). IOW- in life don't sweat the small stuff, and if you haven't been vaccinated grow a pair and go do it, please. It's part of living in a society. Last edited by Ventmaster; 11-04-2021 at 01:46 PM. |

In addition to the Brembo/Ferodo part number posted above, GM's part # is 25940447.

Thanks all
Yeah I know we havent used asbestos for ages but some dodgy countries still do, which is why I guess that customs is going hard on it. They previously stopped some ceramic pads I had come in, the fact it was written on the box, and in the name wasnt enough for them. |
