They could add a clutch actuator to disengage the clutch AND apply brakes.

However, you may be right; C8 Corvette is DCT only.

This PC world already killed the viper, by requiring all the nannies to be put on it. Too many careless people nowadays to get rid of nannies all together. It’s only gonna get worse as next generations appear.

Power steering too! Take that out it's a nannie! :P All that said, the only real nannie I like is the blind spot sensor just because that blind spot is huge. Yeah I can adjust mirrors or add a smaller blindspot mirror on it, but I like the light keeps it clean imo.

"Features" that I hate on cars:
- lane departure warning
- lane keep assist
- forward collision warning
- automatic braking
- auto stop/start

GM has said that most of it's cars and light-trucks will have automatic braking and forward collision warnings by 2022. And they said this as part of an agreement with many other manufacturers.

I'm not saying these things are bad. In fact, I don't care if other people have them. Frankly, I'm really looking forward to the "self-driving car revolution." I can't wait to have a time when 80% of the cars on the road are all driving the speed limit in the right-hand lane . . . so I can make some good time going 80 in the left.

We may be getting to the point where I will elect to not buy a new car and simply keep my old one (or buy more/different old ones).

I wouldn't throw in the towel yet....As for your above list, if anything Camaro is way behind the curve and a long way from getting most of those...

I believe Chevy's big dog nanny is Adaptive Cruise Control which incorporates a lot of stand alone features into one...the automatic braking and accelerating you will only see on an ACC equipped car....and most of those will only work with an automatic transmission....no ACC or start/stop would work with a manual transmission...

The '19 Camaro is getting Forward Collision Alert...It is just that, a beeper alert only, no braking, etc...It's not that big of a deal....Plus, as stated earlier, all of these can be turned off, if desired....

Perhaps in the 7thGen Camaro we may see a lot more "safety" features, but even by then, they will be old-hat and common on most other cars, and probably come as standard equipment....

For now the Camaro is still pretty Spartan with those features you list...2022 is a ways off, and probably when we'll see a 7thGen with some or most of those features....

I actually like the lane warnings, I'd like my car to give me all the information I need.
However, when the car starts braking, driving itself, thats when I draw the line.

Slow sales killed the Viper, which has always had the weakness of not having a less powerful & cheaper trim to bolster production numbers & make it at least semi-economical. If a PC world & nannies were the culprit, we wouldn't have the Camaro SS & ZL1, Corvette Z06 & ZR1, Hellcat & Demon, GT350 & upcoming Shelby, etc. There's no denying those models' performance, which ranges from equaling that of first-gen Vipers in the SS to exceeding the best of the most recent Vipers at the high end - nannies and all.

There were always plenty of careless people on the road, and trying to prove that the carelessness trait is any more common today is probably a fool's errand, except perhaps in the sense that today cars' performance is so much higher across the board that an idiot can cause a lot more problems when things go bad. The performance of the nanny-less 4th gen others were discussing earlier - out of nostalgia more than anything, i think - may have seemed special then, but in 2018 it would be pretty unremarkable compared to a number of relatively cheap "sporty" economy cars.

Pricing that capability to more readily put it in the hands of a broader segment of the population that maybe lacks the experience that someone going for an early '90-something Z28 would have (hopefully) had back then is asking for trouble unless you have something to rein it in, hence the nannies

Yea, I really miss smashing into other cars when my brakes locked up and and sliding into that tree when I was driving like an ahole in bad road conditions. Not to mention smashing my face into the steering wheel when I hit that tree. Those were the days!

Maybe not. Cell phones, other mobile devices, and various other new technologies have taken the kinds and durations of carelessness to a whole 'nother level.

How many people do you know who still put the rest of the world on hold while they're driving, and leave them that way until they get to where they're going?
