SOB! picked up a roofing nail in GY E F1 SC 3R

So.. I picked up a nail in a 3R (LR) a little over a week ago. Made it home; with no bells or whistles. When I put the car away there were no obvious issues. Ironically I checked tire temp and pressure about 5 miles from home.

Car warned me on start up today, 16lbs. obviously a slow leak (16 lbs. in 8 days). Texts and emails from OnStar. It was my last chance to rip up HI 378 with friends before it gets busy here... SH*T!!!

I found the nail, it's centered in the tread/contact patch far from the sidewalls. Although I'm unlikely to trust this tire in a high speed or hard cornering/braking situation, I feel pretty good about spirited street use. The tire has plenty life left and I'm going to patch and re-balance.

Anybody else puka a 3R and repair? Results?

Thanks in advance for feedback.

I carry one of these. They aren't huge plugs and should be great for a roofing nail hole.

I had a nail in each of the rears. Took it to a high speed track....I'm still here...car's still here. Maybe I shouldn't have done it, but the patches held up perfectly.

Thank you for your feedback. Patch info appreciated.

Good tip. I carry dynaplugs in the trunk, fortunately I made it home before any noticeable air loss.

Unfortunately there is no touchless mounting available here. Dropped off at custom shop with good rep and Hunter tire machine for a patch, remount and balance. They do a lot of work on lifted trucks, exotics and hot rods. I needed to find a shop to mount new tires down the road anyway.

Fingers crossed.

Been doing this for years, never a problem. Had a Corvette one time that had 3 plugs in one rear tire. no issues.

Thanks for all feedback.

Dismounted, patched, mounted and balanced...all good, wheel is spotless.

Silver lining; I found a shop that won't damage wheels and tires when mounting new tires.

Alan,
Sorry to hear you picked up a nail,
But glad everything turned out good.
And now you have a good shop!
Have a Merry Christmas!
