Blown (?) DSSV on ZL1 1LE

Was driving the car around after a wash and noticed the RF was making a new rattle/clunk everytime the car went over a bump in the road. Figured it may be related to the sway bar end links so I put the car in the air and started checking for bolts. I didn't find any loose bolts, but what I did find was a bunch of grease on the bottom of the RF damper. All other corners are clean with no leaks. Car has 3k miles on it, about 10 track days.

I know there was a recall on the DSSV's on the Colorado ZR2, "...may have a leaking front shock absorber. noise as a result of contact between the upper control arm and service stop, as well as a potential fractured shock absorber piston rod." Could be the source of my sound...

I suppose I will be contacting a local dealer tomorrow.

Just to add to this, what I'm referring to is grease coming out of the "breather" valve on the bottom side of the shocks. As I understand it, this grease is for internal lubrication and is not actually part of the "damper" and leaks can occur here. However, there was A LOT of grease on the bottom of the strut and knuckle of the car.

I just had my ZR2 checked for that when I took it in for the free oil change last week, it was good thankfully. It definitely sounds like the same thing that was happening to the ZR2s...

The clunk does sound very similar as if it had loose end links, though they are definitely tight.

I would loosen and retorque the end links. At least it’s easily repeatable. Very odd

I will loosen and retorque just for peace of mind, however, that doesn't change the absurd amount of grease on the bottom of the strut, knuckle, and brake caliper which is the main concern that I initially posted about.

Yeah I agree, I’d just want to me 100% on those links. The grease may be a different issue. Certainly possible, but my head just doesn’t wrap around that sound being the damper.

That was my exactly thinking, I've never seen a damper make a sound like that.

Did you hear anything from the dealer about the grease blown out of the bottom of the shock?

Guys just to update, I've had this car up to check and recheck. It is definitely not the end links. Dealer appointment on Monday. I'm still hard-pressed to believe it's the damper making this sound.
