The modern Camaro & Mustang are tighter, lighter, can handle curves better & a fun nimble driving experience.
I can attest to these facts, after having owned & experienced both the Challenger & Camaro, not simply taken test drives. Of course, the muscle vs pony car debate has been ongoing for decades & won't be resolved in this thread.
You're absolutely right. Terms like muscle car and pony car, are nothing more than sweeping generalizations, and pretty much have the same meaning. It just depends on who you're talking to, and those folks are usually old folks like me.

The old formula was simple, big engine + little car. Not that this formula has really changed much in it's basic premise, but we have become much more sophisticated in what we want from our cars, I mean, when was the last time you saw a brand new car that you had to physically "roll up" the windows?

Keep in mind that the old 1970 Charger wit hit's 440 six pack came with 375 hp, would blast you down the 1/4 mile in right around 14 sec, and if you were lucky, and careful, you might get 10 miles out of a gallon of gas. These stats would not exactly make the cover of Motor Trend today, lol.

I wonder what those engineers back then would've said if you told them one day, that Charger would have 700+ HP, could be driven on the street everyday, and still get 20 mpg on the highway. Then add that this car could give you directions, make phone calls, open you garage door and whatever else. They probably would've said your nuts. lol

And that it would have four doors.

LOL, at that point they would've called security and had you escorted off the premises.
