NEW VIR Full ZL1 1LE Record
Kyle is a good friend of mine so I was determined to take his record down with a stock car (since after all he only let me keep the VIR zl1 1le record for 3 days haha). Temps and grip at VIR were perfect for lap setting yesterday. Managed to set a 1:57.88 on a completely stock car.
The car is incredibly impressive however, in stock form I think I'm nearing the limits of what I can do. Alignment changes might help me get some speed through 9 and hog pen but not sure if it'll cause a compromise elsewhere. Details about the car: 100% stock; only change is brembo fluid. TC / SC etc all off. I had the car in track mode and ran with steering in tour. I have the exhaust fuse pulled. Brakes, tires, rotors etc. all OE. I did fit new Supercar 3R tires for yesterday. To my surprise they weren't noticeably faster then my 4 day old supercar 3rs that I ran in Oct 2019. A majority of my time came from very deliberate technique changes much less so then "extra" grip. Kinda stumped on this point TBH. Sorry for the video quality - I was really focused on getting into the 1:57s and I totally forgot to check if the video was over exposed until it was too late. I did what I could to fix it but it just looks and sounds average (at best). Hope you enjoy! I'm waiting to hear if my application for UTCC has been accepted. Would be really fun to represent the Camaro at UTCC - yesterday's work was a shake down, training and prep for May in the event that it works out and I can go. Second lap is the fast lap... as usual i was excited at the end... I was starting to burn the car down as this was my 8th hot lap attempt in 4 sessions so the pressure was really on to wrap up the project. Closing thoughts: Was a really enjoyable day on track. In the future, Track Club USA's Winterfest is not crowded and has a full refund weather clause for rain and snow so I'd encourage folks interested in driving VIR in low traffic conditions to sign up and run with this club. |

For perspective, Randy Pobst (with full factory Ford support) did 1:56.30 in a CFTP GT500 and 1:59.68 in a based GT500.
Both those cars had fresh tires on standby, +110hp and DCT. Let that sink in for a minute. Great great driving by David. The ZL1 1LE continues to be an Alpha.

A 1:58.2 backed up with a 1:57.8...... That's damn impressive for a totally stock car! Huge congrats man!!!

This behavior occurred on all 5 sessions where I went for it. So I really had my fingers crossed that traffic wouldn't cause a problem on the 3rd lap lol. I feel like I had to push on the hot lap prior to get as much temp as possible in the tires for them to operate in 53 - 55 degree temps. |

Awesome lap - congrats for showing what an owner can do in a ZLE M6. I'm certain an A10 would close the gap completely with the DCT GT500 CFTP.
