Spare Tire Kit Compitability (2016/2017 Camaro LT/V6) RS with 20 inch Run Flat Set
Hi all,
I am totally new in here and new to the marvelous Camaros. I am really disappointed that there are no Spare tires in there. I did so digging, Chevrolet does not even offer a Spare Set for the 2016/2017s. I am totally fine with filling my Trunk with the Donut Spare tire (I travel alot). So no, I need you help and suggestion, Will the 18 inch Spare tire set from the 2015 Camaro work on my Car (RS 2017 LT with 20 inch Run Flat)? Part numbers are here: 1)Wheel only (no tire) 18" part #:92230888 2) container #:92200810 3) strap #:25892541 4) extension #:25892542 5) jack kit #:92236233 I really need your experienced opinion. Thank you so much.
Sometimes I travel in rural areas for over 200 miles. I need to feel safe. Any one actually did try this? Did it work? Any photos? I am ready to buy it. Its something like $400, but I want to make sure it will work, otherwise I will be loosing my money. Also, I am not an expert. Just newbie in here. |

Will a fix a flat kit work instead of a spare tire? I changed my run flats to A/S BFG's. Planning to buy a fix a flat kit. Will it work as intended with BFG's or similar A/S tires?

Fix-A-Flat might be fine for small punctures but won't help in the situation where the tire is sliced by road debris or sustains other serious damage. Most run flats recommend that you only drive long enough to get to a tire shop to replace them. I'm not sure how well run flats work if the tire is badly damaged. In an extreme case without a spare you might be waiting for a tow truck.

I got a spare from Performance Spare https://performancespare.com/
Since I took off the run-flats I'd rather be able to drive slowly to a tire shop than have to have the car towed. JMO The dealership gave me a fix-a-flat kit with the compressor, etc. but I don't trust it.

Pretty sure fix a flat will damage your tire pressure sensors if you have them in your new tires

This is what I did. I think it's the best option without adding an actual spare tire. But if you did add one I think this is still beneficial. |

I am really into getting a spare tire while keeping my run flats.
Any one can confirm that this kit could work? http://www.wholesalegmpartsonline.co.../19257799.html Quote:

I would really appreciate it, as a new guy in the block, to get your expert opinion.

GenV and GenVI wheels are interchangable. The only concerns should be:
1) Brake clearance 2) Rear differential wear I have a 2016 1LT RS, same as you. But I will be adding the the OEM Brembos soon. The GenV spare tire set won't clear the Brembos. Also, they have a smaller diameter than your 20's (despite the thicker side wall of the spare kit). That means that you shouldn't mount them in the rear, lest you risk damage to the diff. Unless you have an Automatic, in which case, there's no diff. For me, I'll get the kit from performance spare (mentioned above). It's made to clear the Brembos upfront, but has a similar diameter to the RS wheels, so they won't stress my rear diff (I have a 6MT V6). |

An option is Modern Spare, a company that makes cast aluminum wheels for newer cars that don't come with spares. They are on Ebay. Wheel, tire, jack, lug wrench kit, about $370 to your door.
