SS Rear Spoiler - Custom Fabrication
I made a rear spoiler for our 2012 SS. I based it on a design I saw but a few little mods like a little taller to look a little more aggressive.
Started with a trip to Tap plastics to get some polymer. I sketched out a design, on my PG&E envelope (kinda like how John Lennon wrote songs) and transferred it out on the plastic. I used a smoked polymer for the center section to go with the Black theme of the rest of the car. Once I had it cut out, I set it on a bumper reinforcement, out of a Honda I was working on, that had a similar curve to the rear spoiler profile and used a heat gun on it with some hammers for weights to add some curve. It only added a little bit of the curve i needed, the rest was the flexibility of the polymer. I drilled holes in the stock spoiler and added riv-nuts to mount the new pieces. Then, painted the main piece with the correct base coat and sprayed a mat clear to finish it. Then time to enjoy it. Went out to a cars and coffee and love the car. One thing, once the mounting bolts got wet, they had surface rust. So, I sprayed them with the base coat and then some mat clear. Problem solved. Thanks for reading. |

Looks really nice. Do you have any pics looking at the front of the new addition where it butts up against the stock spoiler? Thanks.

I'll take some photos of the front of it tomorrow. I can't find any close ups right now.
Interesting idea about painting the edges. What color you think would look good? The edges are probably the week areas since they're cut, filed then sanded to get as smooth as I could. Thanks for all the comments.... |

Looks really nice. Good job. Gives me some ideas since we have some similar material at my work.
