Kuat Sherpa bike rack and hitch
I wanted to post this up for anyone who was thinking about getting a bike rack for the car. I have the original Kuat Sherpa which works really well but there are some things to note about getting a bike rack and hitch put on the car.
1. The bumper gets cut. It's a small cut but it is required for the hitch to clear. 2. The hitch will be noticeable. Over time I got used to it but don't be surprised how many times people will ask you "Why do you have a trailer hitch on a Camaro?" 3. The bike rack clears just fine but be careful when folding it up so the wheel cages don't hit the car. 4. The bike mounted closest to the car needs to have the pedal closest to the car at "6 o'clock" Otherwise you will hit the paint. Also be careful when putting the bike on and off the car as that pedal can and will still hit the bumper. 5. The truck will not open all the way with the bike rack in the flat position. If you have a Kuat it should swing forward to allow you to open it. I've attached some pics for reference. I hope this helps. |

A better question would be, 'Why not?'

The Thule T2 clears a little better with bikes on (you can slide the trays in and out), so no pedal problems here. I still can't fold it up, but that may be because of the fat-bike tray I have that's much bigger than a traditional. If I had to get another rack, I'd get a 1up, but this thing is from 2006 or so and still going strong. Exhaust pipes are located well below the tires (important for keeping them from catching fire!).

I use a 1up rack. Very satisfied. Pedals and handlebars clear the car and I can open the trunk (this is more bike dependent though).

Forgot to add - the hitch I got didn't require the bumper to be cut like the OP had to. https://www.etrailer.com/Trailer-Hit...tml?vehicleid=
Why a hitch on a Camaro? Why not? It's very convenient for transporting a bicycle. And it's a Camaro, not a Lamborghini

Was a little more out-of-the-way and hard to tell it was even on there unless I actually told you-on the Gen 5. Still, I'm happy with it on the 6. Why have it? So I can have my cake and eat it too. I live an active lifestyle and I constantly am out doing stuff. This allows me to do the cycling stuff with this car. Probably helps tie the rear chassis together a little better too. You can drive your minivan to the trailhead

Wow a lot of people didn't read the OP or have zero sense of humor.
And there is a guy on TeamCamaro with a first gen that has TOWED TRUCKS with it. That said, I personally would never buy a car with a hitch of any kind on it. I have seen enough cars towing things they shouldn't, and this exists. https://www.etrailer.com/Ball-Mounts...4aAq6vEALw_wcB They have another one that says "tow up to 7500 pounds with your bike rack." That must be some bike rack. There are enough idiots in the world you can't trust someone just used their bike rack for bikes.

Interesting. Mine is noticeable if you are looking for it. I typically have to point it out to people. They did have to cut the valance under the rear fascia. Again, if you bend down and look for it, you’ll see it, but who does that?
The rack that I use positions the bike(s) far enough away that pedal-meets-paint is a non-issue.

Well, what I saw right in the manual, says -NOT- to use, nor is it intended to tow, anything; specifically (2018)
No mention of a bike rack, but I didn't buy mine for doing that. |

They also offer a specific Camaro accessory Thule bike rack, though I purchased a different Thule from my favorite bike store. https://accessories.chevrolet.com/pr...tegoryId=12001 https://accessories.chevrolet.com/pr...tegoryId=12001

Dealers usually sell some old J-style hanging rack from 1990 and over price the hell out of to unsuspecting customers that don't understand modern tray-racks. Never ever go with the dealer stuff. Even with my BMW IF you wanted a roof-rack, the mounts were super-tall for no-reason. You could get feet from Thule that were "normal height", but the dealer stuff was goofy for no good reason. They also sold a hitch-rack in europe, but it was also of a goofy design. For that car I got the execuhitch, which worked awesome.
