I agree, there is nothing wrong with using cruise control if you use it correctly. I had a long 1,400 mile drive from S. Dakota to Charlotte and needed it to police my speed. The hard part of the initial drive is the straight, open, non populated roads in SD with a posted 80 mph speed limit.

No where in the user manual it states to change Oil for break in period , the document you are referencing is a track manual

However its advisable to change Oil after break in period and 1500 miles is perfectly fine

Just one extra data point here, and don't tell anyone, but I drove my car home in the SF Bay Area from Greenville, TX for ~1800 miles before changing the oil home myself

Everything great so far! Now over 11k happy miles.

When you pick up your car, follow the guide starting at step #6. Steps 1-5 were done at the factory. This guide is about setting the piston rings properly. Avoiding hard WOT pulls until 1500 miles is about letting the rear diff break in. Change your oil when you get home and send a sample to Blackstone-labs.com to get your baseline. 1st oil change at 1000mi is no big deal vs. 500 miles. But the opportunity to set the rings ends at about 50-100 miles.

Right off the lot I drove like a bat out of hell! I was trying to avoid the onstar chick trying to do the dreaded sign-up

The rings are already seated before you buy the car.

The engines are started and ran at the factory. So the first part of the break-in procedure is already done. There is still the remaining parts of the break-in process but the most important one is already done.

Please do.

There's a reason why steps 7-9 are in that procedure. I got my car with 5 miles. Not sure how they do 30+ miles of engine break in at the factory in <5 miles, but if you got the docs, please do share.

Well, I am not an insider, but GM can certainly run the engine in the (separate) manufacturing plant before it's installed in the car and hooked up to the odometer.

The 6th gen "how it's made" from the BBC showed an engine test bench with the harnesses and an engineer mentioning 1500 parameters being tested while the engine is doing its initial bench run.

Yes, that's the factory version of steps 1-5. Seen the vid. Pretty neat how they run the test bench w/ the robots. They load it up and rotate it to check various assembly parameters, compression, rotation resistance, timing, balance, etc. It's about 10-20 seconds, so it isn't 30 miles worth of break in, but it is very cool stuff.

I thought it was Porsche that went into detail on the expansion and contraction of bearing surfaces and how it would be good to have them wear into each other slowly to avoid marring.
