Bummed, my brand new 17x10.5 Darkstars contacted my caliper on the ZL1 scratching it.

I was ASSURED by both Racestar and dragracingwheels.com that these were made specifically for the 6th gen ZL1. And in test fitting them they had about an 1/8" clearance between the tit/top of the caliper and the inside of the wheel. I was happy with that and bolted them up.

Went out for a few digs to test the new traction and they hooked awesome with the 305/45/17 ET street SS's I just put on them. These are $1500 worth of brand new wheels/DRs.

Well I got back to the house and decided to look at them on both sides to make sure we were still all good. And ONLY on the passenger wheel, wouldnt you know somehow the caliper made contact with the wheel. Not bad but enough to put a scratch ring around 3/4th the inside of the wheel and took a small chip out of the tip of the caliper. I took the wheel off to inspect and didnt find anything else rubbing anywhere.

Put them back on and torqued to 140ft lbs again and went back out. No issues more-so than before, but now im worried. I was going to drive on these full time and keep them on at the track next week. But now I fell like I should put the stock wheels back on and just swap them on for the track.

This is disheartening. And you know the dragracingwheels.com people will not under any circumstances take back or refund anything thats been mounted. Forget getting them to fix the caliper... Below is a link to the wheel that "fits" but your mileage may vary. My drivers side wheel is perfect no contact. And from the outside, the driver's side looks like its even closer to the wheel inner barrel.

How could this happen??

Maybe some road debris managed to get between the wheel and the caliper? Pure one in a million bit of bad luck.

Same thing happened on my 4th gen with a 15 x 10 that they said would clear. Had to grind the caliper some on one side. Either way Racestars are budget wheels. You could buy another set tomorrow and have no clearance issues.

Wait. You can fit some 17s on ZL1? I thought 19 is the lowest we can go. Having ori 20s have not much place for caliper, looks like 19 is the most you can get on those. But you fitted 17? :O

17s on the rear for drag pack use is incredibly common.

The wheel weights are stick on and are farther forward to the face of the wheel and not near the caliper. So Im going to chock this up to a rock. The drivers side is totally perfect.

Here's the ZL1 in question. My 21 shock a10 which I pulled an incredible 3.3 0-60 on the street with it last night with only a rotofab, no tune otherwise completely stock.

Oh so this is only for rear? Gotcha. I am passively researching winter wheel set for my ZL1, square setup, I though 19s are the only option. But this is off-topic, so nevermind

So this actually happened to my 2017 ZL1 as well with GS1R Forgeline 17" beadlocks. The wheels were made specifically for a 2017 ZL1 and during the installation & test fit they cleared the calipers. But as soon as I started driving I heard a grinding noise and we immediately removed the wheels but the damage was done.... to the credit of Forgeline & PK Auto, they replaced both wheels.

There might be more here because Forgeline has the OEM spec's for 2017 ZL1 calipers & clearance but for some reason, they didn't fit on my car. Forgeline was absolutely perplexed about this. To their credit, they made it right.

We'll all find out together if the new set fits as I'll be installing them here soon.
